Whats the best rotory?

Im looking at rotarys now for christmas gift to myself and I need to know whats the best out there, and what has the best compatability with foam pads and stuff..Please give me your suggestions, because I know nothing about rotorys!!

I just got myself a Makita 9227C rotary, I hear they`re the best, haven`t had a chance to use it yet and I have nothing to compare it too but I purchased it based on quite a few detailers recommendations.



I also hear the Hitachi is a good one.

While it talks about the Metabo, post #23 lists the specs for several different rotary polishers.



All of the rotaries I`ve seen use the standard 5/8 thread so any backing plate/pad system for a rotary will work with all of them.



The four that seem the most popular on here seem to be the Makita, Hitachi, DeWalt, and the Metabo (not necessarily in that order).



FWIW, if I decide I need to upgrage from my el-cheapo Harbor Freight`s I`ll go with a Hitachi (good price) or the Metabo (much higher price but very light).

I`m sure you`d be happy with any of the big name brands. The only one I would caution against is the Dewalt, awefuly loud IMO, kinda high pitched as well. Other then that something to consider is in the event that your rotary breaks or needs servicing where does it need to go for service. Can you afford the time it would take to send it away for repairs or would it be easier to take it someplace around the corner that services your particular brand.

It`s subjective, the Metabo is the lightest but I really like the feel and power of the Makita 9227C.

Anywhere, everywhere. It has the same 5/8" x 11 threading that all the profesional machines use.

I`ve got the Dewalt Rotary. It`s prob one of the heavier of the bunch but it`s still pretty comfortable to use. The added weight allows you apply a bit less pressure when polishing. For most cases the weight of the machine alone is all the pressure you need.

The Metabo is not only the lightest rotary, but it`s also the best balanced tool out of the bunch.



I also own a Dewalt, and have used the Makita, and IMO the Metabo is the Rolls Royce. If you have proper technique (keep the pad flat, overlapping passes, keep the polisher moving, etc...) it`s damn near like operating a PC.

Makita 9227C for me and I use a Meguiars backing plate and pads.
