Using PC on the roof..

Do people use PC to polish the roof? I`m about to use PC for the

first time and not sure it is a good idea to polish the roof. It

seems like it will be too easy to make mistakes. Trying to reach

the roof and lean too much pressure on the PC while polishing, etc.

Is hand polish be safer for the roof?

Why would it be hard to machine polish the roof of a car, van or truck? I do it all the time. Use a ladder or step stool so you can be at about chest level or a bit lower so you can apply even pressure with your buffer.

It is a 06 Lexus GS300. I`m 5`8" and I can only reach the center of the roof if I

stretch my hands. It doesn`t feel comfortable even when standing on a stable

chair. :-) Perhaps, I`m novice being a first timer. :-)

like scott said, step stools work wonders. On trucks I usually just stand in the bed.

as a courtesy reminder, just remember not to wear anything that can scratch a pillar, ie: remove belts, no buttons, thats why i always wear an apron but i always still have to keep mine visible as a reminder.

I use a pair of THESE. I got them for the minivan, but I find they`re great for the roofs of normal cars too; I get a good perspective looking down, easier to spot things and more comfortable when working. I`m 5` 10" and I enjoy using them even when I wouldn`t necessarily *need* to.

You can get the platforms at either HD or Lowes ( sorry dont remember which) but I paid about 40.00 bucks.

For my DeVille I have a homemade milking stool somebody in my wife`s family welded together from scrap metal. The thing is great for this purpose: steady as a rock yet easy to carry from one side of the car to the other.

However, that stool isn`t high enough for our Tahoe, so I have one of those work platforms Accumulator recommended. Yes, it is more expensive, but it is a heavy duty platform. It will hold 500 pounds and I believe it is a couple of inches higher than the $40 platforms. It is perhaps overkill for the purpose but I do feel quite steady and safe when I use it. You could actually have 2 big people on it at the same time working if needed.

jedi_force- Yeah, a lot of people are very happy with the platform you pictured. I like mine better though. One of those things where opinions are gonna differ.
