Im thinking about ordering the Hitachi SP18VA, Side Handle/Hook/Loop Backing Pad

/wrench. So what do I need to order with it? I dont own any other bufferer, polisher, pc, makita(LOL). I do have some experience with a rotery and a practice car to play with. So what will I need? And where should I buy?

    Thanks

Check out coastal tool for the rotary itself. You`re also going to have to pick up some pads and a backing plate.

I ordered this backing plate and some of these P2 pads in Yellow, green and blue from Excel detail.

Looks like some of these pads are out of stock right now. If you call Patrick he should be able to tell you when they will be back in stock.

I just ordered the regular propels with a 6" backing plate. 2 greys, 2 blues, 2 greens, 1 yellow, and 1 orange is what I got. I already had large pads, but i figured they would soften and be useless eventually so I just got all new pads

Thanks for the replys. It says the that it comes with a 7 inch backing plate, so can I use the one that it comes with or do I need the smaller ones? :nervous2:

I still use the stock plate with some lake country VC 7.5 inch pads I got through Pakshak. They work great and I did not have to spend and extra $20 to get started in rotary polishing.

you can use the stock plate if you want, but you would have to get large pads to accomodate it. You`re not going to be able to use the stock 7" plate with 6.5" pads for example. At a minimum, 7.5" pads should be used.

I don`t want to sound ignorant, and I have been trolling around here for a while. So the 1/2 inch larger pads are so make sure you cover the entire backing plate?

yes. You want to have the pad be larger than the backing plate so that there is foam on out edge of the backing plate. This prevents any accidents from happening (aka the backing plate making contact with the paint and scratching the hell out of it).
