Hi, my name is john and I would like to say that I’m the proud owner of a porter cable, Sonus SFX polishing kit and Sonus SFX 1, 2 and 3 polishes!!! My question is I have the CD but I can not find a step by step tutorial for polishing? As a reference my car which I wish to polish is a BLACK 1999 Audi A4. I have a lot of swirls marks and white spot on the hood, which looks like dust. If you can direct me to a good tutorial it would really help me out. Oh, do you have to remove the residue from SFX 1 before SFX 2??? That is just one of the questions that I can’t find the answer to.

Yes you need to remove the residue from each polish before the next polish. Be sure to clay your car first. Be sure to use the appropriate pad with the appropriate polish. It`ll take some practice to get a feel for how much pressure to use with each producs and how long to buff for before wiping off. Buff too long and you`ll scratch the surface as it will have dried up. Buff too short and you`ll scratch the surface because the abrasives didn`t have an opportunity to break down. You`ll find that happy medium between pressure and buffing time to maximize your results. The finer polishes don`t require pressure just the weight of your buffer.

So, SFX 1, use some pressure for a few passes, then lighten up for some passes, then remove.

SFX 2, use some pressure for a few passes, then lighten up for some passes, then remove.

SFX 3, no real pressure for a few passes, then remove.

Again, you`ll need to get a feel for how the polishes break down and when to buff off.

I would assume you have the Porter Cable and pads. If not, get ne. Especially for a black car.

Spilchy gave you some great advice and links too!

Here is my detailing page to add to it...it shows the stages polishes go through when breaking down.
