Re: Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning by GSRstilez

    Sean,
Those before and after shots of the Maxima carpet are incredible. I clean commercial carpet for a living, so I know what it takes to get carpet really clean. Its amazing that you got the stuff that clean and you don`t use a hot steam extraction method, but I bet you dumped some nasty water out of the shop vac. I showed the pictures to my boss and he asked when you could start cleaning restaurant carpets for us!

The filter on a shop vac should always be removed when using for wet pickup.

95YJWRANGLER: The thing was a wreck and I spent a tad extra time on it as I knew the pictures would pay me off. With the mixture I have now, I haven`t seen the need for a hot steam extractor (nor do I have the room ). The water looked like watery motor oil . Thank you and your boss for the kind words.

rycen: Yup, I got this tip from a member over at Autopia. It is definatley an improvement in suction.

Sean, nice write up, i`m going to be giving your regimen a go next time I get a bad interior. I just have 1 question. When you say Oxy Clean, you are referring to the "As Seen on TV" product??? I`ve seen the tub of it at Kmart, just wanted to make sure it was the same product you were using???

Thanks again for the writeup, I will definately be using.

Jackal: You got it. The TV stuff. I used to use Shout OxyPower which performed BETTER, but it went off the market

Oxy does work great, but one word of warning:

DO NOT PUT OXYCLEAN/HOT WATER IN A SEALED CONTAINER UNTIL AFTER THE MIX IS FULLY DILUTED AND HAS A CHANCE TO "BREATHE!!!!!"

I found this out the hard way when my 1 gallon sprayed exploded from the pressure build up by the dissolving oxy...other than that...

After vacuuming up all the cleaning solution, as a rinse, I take a 3 gallon pump sprayer filled with hot water and a few ounces of fabric softener and wet down the area I just extracted. Let it dwell a few minutes, then vac it out. I find that it DOES make a difference in the feel of the fabric/carpet (a lot softer) and helps remove any remaining cleaner that could leave the carpets `crunchy` with dried soap

glad i am not the only one that had a pressure build up with oxy clean, i had some rags soaking in a ice cream pail and added hot water and oxy and put the lid on, shortly the lid blew right off and landed on the counter, scared the crap out of me :LOLOL

    Here`s a pic I liked.

On the right, the area was pretreated with Eimann Fabrik Spot Remover, then cleaned with the Oxy Mix. On the right, just vacuumed. BTW: that tar looking spot is heavily caked in bubble gum.

Did you use that same combo on the seats? If so, how long do you let it soak?
