help! getting a scatch out of rubber

Guys, while reinstalling this airbag horn pad, my screwdriver skipped across the surface and left a shallow gash in the horn pad. I have tried some ultimate compound to no avail - I`m all ears as to what next to try...if anything, this airbag is $600!!!

Is it actually into the leather or just topical? I`d try sonax`s dirt eraser if it`s topical. It`s gentle and shouldn`t discolor the leather.

    SONAX Dirt Eraser 2 Pack

Worst case just dye it with leatherique or another top notch conditioner.
