Mytee 8070 Hot Water Extractor Review

I see PAC is now selling this unit. I wanted to offer a review since I have had one for the last 3 years.

I use mine for professional detailing. Price-wise it may be overkill for a private guy, but not results-wise. This thing really does the job! Having the water heated as you go is the easiest way to go. I have used non-heated in the past. I used a 5 gallon bucket w/ an electric immersion heater to pre-heat the water before filling the machine. This was an extra time consuming step and would really hold me up if I needed a second fill in the middle of a large suv.

The vac motor and heater are plenty powerful. The 3 gallon tank is plenty for most vehicles to go non-stop without a refill. It is portable, but still a handful if you need to lift it into the back of the truck. The hose is long enough you can leave it in one spot, do 1 side of the vehicle front and back, move it and do the other side. The heat is plenty hot and stays so through the whole time. Vac motor is great, but I would recommend a pre-vacuum with a regular vac first to keep large debris out of the unit. It will do a fine job sucking up any small stuff left over. Also very simple to empty since the recovery tank comes off.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. If you use it quite a bit use Mytee System Maintainer or a mixture of white vinegar and water to clean the system out. Hard water deposits can make it difficult for the machine to prime itself and can lead to pump or heater core failure. I have had mine for 3 years, probably done hundreds of interiors and it still works as new due to the regular maintenance.

2. Purchase an interior jet nozzle(s). These I don`t believe are available from Mytee, but are in the aftermarket. The jet is IN the nozzle not behind it, so when you put the nozzle on fabric it sprays right where the nozzle is, not just behind it. This is especially important on tops of seats and head rests where the stock nozzle can spray all over the place. I highly recommend this upgrade, in fact I sold the original Mytee nozzles in Ebay to cover the cost of upgrading the upholstery tool and the crevice tool both to internal spray nozzles. Basically a wash price wise.

3. When using this unit make sure the pump is primed til it shuts off (you`ll hear it), turn on heater and wait about 10 minutes. Squeeze trigger til water coming out is HOT (careful!) then wait another few minutes before starting. This ensures that you will have a constant supply of hot water. In the beginning I did not purge the cold water in the line and then wait and the machine had a hard time keeping up with hot water . I called Mytee tech help and they told me that extra step. Have not had a problem since.

4. Sell this machine to your wife! Want this unit for you but need to justify the purchase price? I bought a large floor attachment. It was pretty pricey, around $175 if I remember right but I can do the carpets in my house any time they need to be cleaned. Also I use this for RV interiors. This machine is definitely up to the task!

My ONLY nit-pick is the heater overload safety switch. This is a little button that pops if the machine detects an overload. I can not figure why it pops or when it pops. It just seems to be random, not related to how I use the machine, because it only does it between uses, never WHILE I am using it. Here is the scenario: Fill the solution tank, wait 10-15 minutes for heat. Purge the cold water out of the line and it doesn`t get hot. Time to hit the reset button.....here is the problem. The reset button is mounted on the heater. Where is the heater? in the bottom of the unit!:cursing: The bottom of the unit IS the solution tank, underneath of which is the heater/pump assembly. So you must try to lift the 3 gallons of solution without spilling the stuff all over (it is mounted to the bottom and only pivots up and out of the way which causes the spill). Then reach into the very bottom and punch a little tiny button. I wish it had and EXTERNAL button you could just view/ depress without the difficult process I just described.

Other than that I highly recommend this machine. It has really stood up well to commercial use as well as being constantly transported, lifted, rolled etc.:thumbup:
