    Question RE Light Gray Leather

I`ll be replacing my 11 year old Passat this summer and it looks like I will only have a choice between light gray and black leather interior. The Passat has black leather, which I like, but was thinking of making a change after 10 years.

No kids or animals to worry about, but I was wondering if the light gray leather will be a PIA to keep clean?? Is jean transfer also a big problem?? Would appreciate any input!!

Re: Question RE Light Gray Leather

If you wear jeans a lot Jean transfer is a nightmare on some "leather surfaces. My brother has a Mercedes with real leather and he got the white and his driver seat is blue on the side he slides in and out of and also he is wearing through the top of that same leg bolster. I got a lot off with leather master dye transfer cleaner but its right back few days later, not sure if its his jeans or that light leather but its bad and I stopped worrying. My wife had a Highlander with tan "leather" seats for 2 years and it got transfer on it (she wears jeans 1/2 as much as my brother) but it came off pretty easy. I think its very dependent on what "leather" you have or as with most new cars leather mimicking vinyl material some clean easy and some are real stubborn and my brothers I think is real leather (painted and coated) and doesn`t handle the wear very well and the parts that the coating worn off the transfer sticks to fast and very well.

It depends how meticulous you are. My wife has a Infiniti G37 Convertible with "Stone" leather interior.

It will show dirt, but you just have to keep after it.

Re: Question RE Light Gray Leather

I`ve had light gray interiors in the dog-haulers and other light colors in other vehicles. No problems IME *BUT* I hardly ever wear jeans except in the dog-haulers. Gee, must not wear `em very often as I`ve never had denim-dye transfer in my life.

Wonder if a good Leather Protection product would solve the problem?

Thanks for the replies!! I like Optimum Leather Protectant as it`s very easy to use and it contains a mild cleaner -- perhaps if I used it more often it would mitigate the jean dye transfer stains?
