Some help with soda spill

Hey guys,

So yesterday my wife accidentally spilled the contents of a 24 oz. soda in my car. The mat is weathertech, which is great, but unfortunately much of the soda flowed right down the mat and on to the carpet that sits immediately in front of and right below the seat. So I went ahead and immediately blotted the area, sprayed carpet cleaner, wiped, repeated, etc.

However, I`d really like to get every last bit of soda out, including whatever might be in the foam underneath the carpet (if any). That being the case, does anyone have recommendations on how I can deep clean the area to get it back to new?

Even with extraction, IMHO it won`t get all the soda out of the foam underneath.

I agree with ron here-- but hopefully it didn`t go past the carpet

if it did the only thing I can think of would be carpet extraction

I have a pretty good carpet steamer / vac that we use for the house, so I will go ahead and hit it with that today too.

Depending on how far your willing to go.
I have lifted my carpet and placed a towel between the carpet and padding after cleaning up my disasters.
But you would need to remove the seat in your situation. (Which I`ve had to do before).
If it looks clean and doesn`t come back up through the carpet you could just leave it.

This towel is only until it dries for a good week.

Just for a quick update - I went ahead and hit the carpet with my carpet steamer and that seemed to do a really nice job on it. One thing I did find interesting though is that there doesn`t seem to be any real padding underneath the carpet at all. The car is an M3, so is it possible that their is no padding for weight savings or something along those lines?

yeah thin carpet and no padding isn`t uncommon in "track" designed cars.

That makes me feel a little bit better about the padding then
