Im looking to buy a steamer, I dont need anything fancy as im just a hobbyist and will only be using it on a handful of vehicles. What would be a good unit to get started with without breaking the bank?

I picked up a small little steamfast steamer from home depot for like $100 as my first steamer. Worked really well and never had a problem. I`ve since upgraded to a firebird but still use the other one around the house.
A lot of people have also talked highly about the McCulloch steamers. I think harbor freight sells them

I have the McCulloch 1385. I have used it on numerous vehicles and it does a superb job for a steam cleaner in the $200 range. I would highly recommend it.

I bought a Mccullah at HF and returned it.
I didn`t like how it spit water out constantly.
Broke the bank with a VX5000. I was determined to exercise the return policy, I just wanted to try it...BUT, After the wife cleaned the shower tile and a few things around the house she wouldn`t let me return it.
Great for cars too!
