I was wondering how my Internet Speed compares to others around north America, as well as our fellow Autopians around the world.

I went to a site called Speakeasy, located at:

    http://nyc.speakeasy.net

You just click the test button and wait for your results.

Mine came in at: download-4869 kbps

    upload -893 kbps

If you are curious as i was, please let me know how it turns out.

    Cheers!

I`m on a wireless network (Pre-N) with Adelphia PowerLink:

    Upload: 237 kbps

    Download: 2910 kbps

To my surprise, the numbers are not really any different than when I had a cable modem connected to my computer.

215/233 kbps. SDSL. We`re still pretty backwards here. Keep in mind, the most limiting thing on the net isn`t how fast your machine can pull it, it`s how fast the site you`re accessing can push it. At work we have a T3 line, and my real time connections aren`t appreciably faster there than they are here.

I wish I had Optimum, damn monopoly with Comcast :down . My friend had Optimum and his service FLEW. He know moved to the same town as me and says Comcast is way slower.

Heres my Comcast number 2161/240 kbps. Big difference from down the street(next town over has Optimum)

2712 / 904 kbps and 339 KB/sec transfer rate on my apartment`s network. I hate the internet here though. I`m only suppose to use 250mbs of transfer a day.

    2660k down

    234k up

The difference between Optimum and Comcast is unreal.

The numbers i`m seeing by and large ( 2248 - 214 ) was what i was getting with regular cable high speed. They have a service here they call "extreme high speed" that costs the same but you have to purchase an external modem for $75 that is giving me the higher speeds ( 4869 - 893 ).

The Optimum service is double that again. Did you guys have to purchase your own modem as well?

Scottwax, i remember the days of dial-up. I think once you try any of the high speed services they have now, you will be pleasantly surprised and never go back.

I use it when I am at my parent`s or brother`s houses. I just can`t justify taking a full day off of work to stay home and wait for them to show up for the install. I thought after my brother got laid off, I could get him to come over for a day but his part-time computer business he had while still working is now a strong full time job. Last summer, when my kids were here, Comcast said they wouldn`t send anyone out since my oldest was 17. They said someone 18 or older had to be there. I told her I didn`t mind and she said something like "don`t you worry about your kids?" and I said "my son is 17, plays football and hockey and is a power lifter and unless you are sending over a pedophile who is trained in martial arts and is bigger and stronger, my son can more than take care of himself." No go. He will be out this summer though and will be 18 so if worse comes to worse, it will be 5 months before I can cruise the internets at an acceptable speed.

I`ve also tried scheduling on rain days but they need more lead time and the weather guessers around here are notoriously inaccurate.

I guess there is 1 good thing about virginia. If you call cox to make an appointment you have option. They will send their guys out even at night. Like between 7pm to 10pm. You no longer have to sit home all day.

Try it Scott - call them to schedule a late appointment.
