Guess what? they will all think twice when they are replaced by an automated system that doesn`t require a person to take an fast food order. Groceries stores are proving this already with self check out lines...For that matter gas stations at one point where all service station attendants...seen one of those in the last 20 plus years?

What they don`t understand is they are replaceable and very easy to do so, why? because it`s a non-educational / skilled position and the very reason they are paid on the lowest end of the pay scale..

Re: $15.00 minimum wage - thoughts?

At the end of the day it`s simply a group of people trying to rewrite reality. These jobs are entry level jobs, second jobs, summer jobs, jobs for teenagers, jobs to eek ones way through school and the list goes on. It`s honest work that no one should be ashamed of performing. That said, these jobs should not be considered the jobs one strives to attain.

Who would have ever thought that we would be trying to make unskilled labor of this magnitude a destination job, a job that you could support a family on? This isn`t typical blue collar labor, like carpenters, welders, craftsman etc., this is unskilled labor. Labor that requires few skills has pay that is commensurate with these requirements. End of story. This thought process is beyond what my mind can unravel.

I don`t begrudge any zillionaire / CEO any money they earn. They are responsible for operating a very profitable company - that`s the compensation hierarchy of capitalism. That is what this country WAS built on.

So many "executives" in America have been the mastermind behind ground breaking, envelope pushing companies: Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Sam Walton, etc... Do I want these peoples` salaries capped or messed with? No. One Steve Jobs is worth a million minimum wage workers to our economy.

If Walmart can`t pay their workers` a decent wage - then people shouldn`t work there. It`s that simple. Any excuses like "it`s not that easy", etc... really don`t fly with me. It`s basic economics. If Walmart has a hard time finding decent employees - they will raise their wage through natural market forces - not government mandated laws. Jobs will become more competitive as wages get higher.
You`re probably right that execs won`t get paid less. That`s part of the problem. All I`m saying is, is that our country has a wealth inequality problem. The top 1% control 40% of the wealth in this country, and that spread continues to grow. I don`t know how to fix it, just that it is an issue in my opinion.

Walmart can pay their workers a decent wage but choose not to, and instead let you, Joe taxpayer, subsidize their low wages through taxation.

Steve Jobs is worth a million minimum wage workers? What do you even mean by that? Apple products are largely built in foreign countries by people paid less in a day or week than what the avg. American makes in an hour. Maybe they should just go out and "find new jobs" too? Hell, some of the manufacturing plants they work at have nets outside their windows to prevent people from committing suicide.

"So many "executives" in America have been the mastermind behind ground breaking, envelope pushing companies: Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Sam Walton, etc…"

There are lots of executives who haven`t either. How about some of the bank execs of 2008? Guys who ran their banks in the ground, got bailed out by the taxpayers and took millions (probably billions in aggregate) of those taxpayer dollars in the form of bonuses. Oh, and in case you didn`t know (I`m just throwing this out there), the largest banks in this country, i.e. the ones that are "too big to fail" are now considerably BIGGER than what they were before the financial crisis.

The idea that capitalism and the "winner takes all" mentality is perfect and can do no harm is laughable. Am I suggesting socialism? No. I`m simply sticking to my point, that there is in fact an issue with the current system.

As Pat Buchanan would often remind us, raising the minimum wage is like kicking the bottom rungs out of the ladder.

Re: $15.00 minimum wage - thoughts?

Time for my rant. It`s the haves and have not`s. The stock market is over 17k right now yet nothing has trickled down to the middle and lower classes. The last time we had a good economy and everyone was making a good wage was under Clinton. Eventually it`s going to be poor and rich no middle class.
Right now my family is in desperate need. My wife got laid off from her job and got her 3rd back surgery so she was on unemployment disability. She got sick and was in the hospital and blew another disc. She is due for her 4th back surgery at the end of this month. Unemployment disability is gone. She now can collect her regular unemployment and she has been on the phone 3 hours a day trying to get through to open her claim. This has been going on for a week +. I`m looking for a PT job ( btw if anyone needs help around the shop no job is beneath me and I will take NJ state minimum wage. I live in West Deptford.)
Her surgeon basically told my wife she will never be able to work again because the discs in her back and neck are just going to keep blowing over time. Based on her MRI he said the disc above the current blown disc has maybe a year max before it goes. He said probably buy the time she is 50 she will have had more then half her back fused and that is taking it easy. She got it from her Dad. His first surgery for it was at age 65. My wife is having her 4th at age 38. So we started the process for permanent disability and we all know what that is going to take.
We are doing everything we can to stay a float sold a car I make too much money for state assistance but my daughter is not going to school in $100 sneakers.
So we are hoping to get reduced lunch application approved at school so lunch for our daughter is 40 cents a day. Right now she brown bags it but a 40 cent lunch will be cheaper then anything we make for her at home for the week.
There are people that need some REAL help every now and then and people that milk the system for every dime they can so they can go to fast food joint make minimum wage get state and federal assistance to buy $100 sneakers for a 5 year old and sit at home and play Xbox all night.
Yes people need to get off there buts and work hard. I`m out looking but my wife can`t work. Even if she worked from home PT her perm disability claim will be closed. Half the time she cannot even get out of bed because of the pain.
There are people who need help out there. Like my family and others who are having a hard time. And then there are leaches on the system and it needs to stop so the people who need a little help can get it until they do not need it anymore.
Honest hardworking people who fall on tough times don`t like to ask for help heck we hate it. Sometimes we need it. They will also work their butts off to get out of needing help.

Someone has a differing opinion than you, so they must be "drinking the Kool-Aid." Quite insightful.
