Danish teen fought off her attacker - now she`ll face fine - The Local

A 17-year-old girl who was physically and sexually attacked in Sønderborg will herself face charges for using pepper spray to fend off her assailant.

The teenager told police that she was attacked in central Sønderborg on Wednesday at around 10pm by a dark-skinned English-speaking man. She said the man knocked her to the ground and then unbuttoned her pants and attempted to undress her.

The girl was able to save herself from further assault by using pepper spray on the attacker, but now she may be the one who ends up in legal trouble.

“It is illegal to possess and use pepper spray, so she will likely be charged for that,” local police spokesman Knud Kirsten told TV Syd.

The case has sparked a backlash among some Danes who point to increasing reports of sexual harassment in Sønderborg and other Danish cities at the same time that police say they are stretched too thin to properly carry out their duties.

Numerous readers wrote in the comments section on TV Syd’s story about the incident that they would be willing to pay the girl’s fine, which will most likely be 500 kroner.

The man who attacked the 17-year-old fled from the scene and has not been charged.

Sexual assaults have been in the news in Sønderborg recently after several women in the town reported earlier this month that they sometimes feel harassed by the aggressive behaviour of some male asylum seekers and refugees at the local asylum centre.

It is not known, however, if the assailant in this latest incident was an asylum seeker or refugee.

In related news, a nightclub in Sønderborg is now barring guests from entering if they cannot speak Danish, English or German. Other Danish nightclubs are also reportedly considering similar moves.

Like we said a while back, doing good, anything good, is now bad...
And doing bad, anything bad, is now good...

And no amount of rationalizing, explaining, trying to give the pathetic - over-educated - rationale, is ever going to work for me, thank you..

Wrong is wrong; we really need to forget all the evil-inspired crapola that has been wedged in between and just say No; I know in my gut, I know from what my Parents taught me, I know from what the good book says, that this is right, and that is wrong and will always be so..

That "..suspended for an unrelated incident.." bit seems curious, either there`s something more to the story or it`s blatant obfuscation.

I`m most furious about the teacher`s response to a Medical Emergency; emailing for help is simply idiotic and idiocy in her position is life-threateningly serious- she`s not qualified for her postion.

Now about his grammar though....but OK, I`ll blame that on the school system too. Good on him for performing correctly under stress, he seems well-suited for work as an EMT, or for life in general IMO. Nice that some folks are providing him with opportunties.

It is hard to believe but I guess they cannot afford to hire good teachers and administrators. I am sure there is some lawyer behind a lot of the unexplainable things that go on in schools.

Bunky And I often suspect that behind most (improperly oriented) lawyers there`re some game-the-system clients, otherwise there wouldn`t be any $ in it.

[Some of the people Accumulator esteems most highly are attorneys, and they are just as appalled by such stuff as we are.]

While I`m 100% with you on how school are under-funded and teachers under-paid, anybody who emails for help in that kind of Medical Emergency is simply a [twit] who has no business being in a position where their idiocy can endanger others. Can`t formulate and execute proper response to emergency = shouldn`t be in charge of kids.

Not that *I* have a solution to the whole "how to get better teachers" issue.....

I was not talking about all lawyers but lawyers work for clients and their job is to keep their clients out of trouble. The profession often make lawyers do and say things they really regret (I hope). Like politicians learning to lie and not feel guilty. This may mean giving advice they do not actually agree with such as knowing their client is guilty but try to get them off anyway.

To prevent litigation they suggest guidelines that can encourage certain behavior. This is why is can take an act of god to get some employees fired in fear of retaliation legally, etc. Some may call it political correctness but it is really more than that.

Bunky- Yeah, a lot of lawyers *do* do stuff they oughtn`t, IMO there are times when they just oughta say "sorry, but I`m not on-board with this, can`t represent you if that`s what you want".

And *OH YEAH* regarding the inability to fire people in Education, from kindergarten to Grad Schools it`s simply awful.

Oh, and props to you for not simply settling on the "PC" label for this [stuff].

Some guy left his sun roof open, it rained, so he figured if rice can pull moisture out of his mobile phone after it gets wet , why not try it on car seats and rugs...
