If they quit reporting on all those people who have all those issues with [whatever is stressing somebody out this time] maybe they wouldn`t get as much traction, or at least as much unconditional sympathy. Got a problem with LE on campus? Try spending a semester in a truly lawless environment and post back about your new opinion.

Nobody seems willing to really deal with this subject, rather there`s just a lot of noise about it.

IMO, they oughta find out why the students have this ISSUE with LE and whether it`s justified Do they have a legitimate grievance? I don`t know...Do they, OTOH, need to be enlightened as to their erroneous assumptions instead? Again, I don`t know...But whichever it is, why are college students expending so many resources on this topic instead of their studies? Get this thing sorted out and get the students back to, well....studying.

100%. I often wonder how much happier people would be if the 24/7 news cycle would just go away

I`m happier since I quit paying attention to "news" that is of no practical value to me. Just. Don`t. Care. It`s all just Outrage/Worry Porn IMO. Get upset! Get angry! Get scared! Get distracted... Get manipulated...

    Amen.

My home doesn`t have cable TV. Yes, we stream shows. However, it is nice not being assaulted with News, Commercials and just bad TV programming. I will admit. I sometimes I fill strange. When a big news event happens and it takes a day or two for us to here about it. It`s even weirder when people start asking. Did you see this commercial or that movie trailer. And I just look at them with a goofy look. Then I have to explain we don`t have "normal TV". I even listen to Audible in the car.

Similar situation here, but I listen to Comedy radio everywhere I go.

National Men`s Day? Lol. Men are becoming so feminized. I`m surprised something even exists. Society is just going sissy in general. You see what`s going on with the schools? Like kids get in major trouble for calling someone a name and there is all this "bullying" nonsense..If there`s like a fist fight they call the cops and the kids are arrested. That chit happened like daily in my school ...Cops? I remember the history teacher jumped in to break it up & I took a swing at him lol.

The kids today are just going to grow up to be marshmallows holding onto mommy`s apron strings. No wonder they are like 30 and still at home.

I don`t see men as being "feminized" but rather, just...weak. In body and mind (and some might say spirit).

Those who`ve been subjected to "bullying" might take exception to that trivialization. "Bullying" sounds pretty innocuous a label for some of the behavior in question. It`s not just "kid stuff", it`s vile behavior that ruins lives. Try it on first-hand..after it`s happened to *YOU*.

Kids should be safe, especially when they`re in school. (No, no..not "safe from uncomfortable ideas" or any of that nonsense.)

I remember the history teacher jumped in to break it up & I took a swing at him lol...
Gee I hope not...really, seriously. That kind of [thing] happened in my HS, and was indicative of the lack of control that was endemic there. Why would a student direct physical violence at a teacher? Why would anybody want to interfere with the breaking up of a fight at a school? Why isn`t school all about learning the stuff that so few people seem to know any more?

Violence sucks and should only be employed as needed to stop...violence. The need to resort to it indicates the failure of Reason, the Rational Faculty that makes Man special. Yes indeed, it`s wise to be competent at it ..but that doesn`t make it any less detestable.

Of course one could argue "bullying is bad"..."bullying is wrong"...We must eradicate it! Make it against the law! Start anti-bullying committees in every school! Police every child`s actions! I dunno...Guess what though? All people / kids aren`t created equal...Some are more equal than others lol.. Letting kids work it out for themselves creates character, socialization skills, and possibly even a personality. And, God forbid - the kid learns to fight and take care of himself!

I think our attempt to sterilize the schools may not be good. Somehow 30-40 years ago - we had little to none of this anti-bullying nonsense. Were our schools worse then? I don`t think so. Yeah, it may be tougher for some kids, but - guess what - not every kid gets the trophy. That`s life. You can`t whitewash / sterilize the world & it`s silly to try.. Lol; I think half the "bullying" is online now..We have the Snap Chat Bully!

And yeah, teachers broke up fights in my high school and occasionally got roughed up in the process. I went to Catholic school in the 80`s - there was no police force there. Stuff was handled in house. Imagine the thought? A school that handled its own business with its own kids? Now the police get involved if there is a fight in high school. Kids get arrested. Kinda ridiculous IMHO.

And if someone wants to stop violence in schools; the first place to start is on the football field. We should ban all high school football !!! More kids are injured / hurt / paralyzed / whatever from that I`m sure than any type of fighting or bullying in school.

For the most part, school`s been the same for hundreds of years. Now, suddenly - its all wrong and we have to fix it. Level the playing field! Stop bullying! New math! Everyone gets a trophy! Cops patrolling the hallways! I say c`mon man...Just act like a normal human being, go to school and you`ll be fine.

Prolly going to get a beat down for this - but you think I care? Men are becoming feminized. Anything traditionally related to masculinity or patriarchy has a negative slant on it these days. Why do you think it`s suddenly so hip to embrace men literally turning themselves into women???

You know how many early 20 something men could change a flat tire now a days? Change their own oil? Prolly very few! Could you when you were 20? But, they could whip out their iPhone, click an app - and have someone come to do it for them. Of course, it`s just EVIL to suggest that is feminine...Cuz you know - men and women are 100% the same - and women traditionally tinker with cars.

Men are raped in the courts as well. I`m sure we all know some guy who divorced & got completely hosed...I could go on..

    Re: The "Really ?!?!?!?!" Thread

Swanicyouth- Our opinions on this subject differ to an extent I believe irreconcilable. I suspect that much of this is because we know very different types of people and have had very different experiences, but whatever the reason we`re clearly not gonna agree.

Everybody deserves to be physically safe at school. Period. Getting ridiculed, much less beaten, doesn`t "foster character" it damages young lives, sometimes with awful consequences.

But come on...every young person I know, male/female, can change a flat tire. They`d be insulted by the suggestion they couldn`t. My wife would be astounded by the notion of asking somebody for help with something like that.."what, like I`m handicapped or something?"

Maybe many young folks can`t change oil/fieldstrip common firearms/sew their own clothes/etc., but they can perform a lot of other tasks that are of value in *their* lives. Different lives call for different skillsets.

Hey..heh heh, for the record, we sure do agree on one thing- I too am about as far from "everybody gets a trophy" egalitarianism as somebody can be As the lady said, "the only sin is mediocrity".

Don`t worry Accum - I love ya. Yeah we`ll agree to disagree. And, I stand by most young MEN today can`t even change a tire. Wouldn`t have a clue where to start. We must orbit in different universes I suppose. I can only go by my experiences - which aren`t yours.

Swanicyouth- Heh heh, I do get that "different universe" thing fairly often! Eh, I`m fortunate in that I don`t have to associate with many people who don`t share my values, that probably skews my perception as I just don`t experience the Clueless very often...it`s like "huh, I`ve read about that kind of person...you mean they`re *real*?!?"

I gather Self-Reliance just isn`t as big a priority as it used to be, heh heh, guess that helps sell the "it takes a village" [stuff].

    Re: The "Really ?!?!?!?!" Thread

I actually agree with different points of both Accumlator and Swanic’s positions. I think kids should be safe in every way while at school. After all, for most kids, being there isn’t something for which they have a choice. I do however think that in MANY (not all) cases we have become way too politically correct. I don’t think police need to be involved simply as the first recourse. Sadly, it’s a situation that has been created as we have taken any real authority from the administrators and teachers. They’re scared to make a judgment call for fear they’ll be sued into oblivion.

One issue where I’ll definitely take Swanic’s views are when it comes to young people changing a spare tire or checking their own oil, coolant, etc. My kids were raised around it with me helping them do these things. They may be able to get through it but I can’t say that I believe they are confident in their abilities. Their friends? The majority of them wouldn’t know a Crescent wrench from a Phillips screwdriver. Kids (read young adults) don’t have these skills in their arsenal. That said, I think many of them could call the Auto Club.
