It is interesting that Dennis Hasserts (the longest serving GOP speaker of the house) conviction for hush money on his admitted child molester crime does not get more news.

Heres hoping he gets his in the pokey
I doubt it he will be in some minimum security country club prison. I am not a God guy, but I sure hope there is a Hell for that guy to burn in forever.
Trashmanssd, You can say that I am and I believe that there is.
A society willing to trade liberty for temporary security deserves neither and will lose both

Yeah, I to wish it were considered Important News.
Eh, they made a big deal out of his getting 15 months
I know they convicted him for the $ transfer and not the actual molestation, but IMO that sack of [crap] oughta rot for the rest of his life both for what he did and as a message to others.
No, no...that would be wrong. NOBODY deserves what I think youre implying and it wouldnt serve any purpose. Not like [some kind of abuse] will change him, or accomplish anything else.Originally Posted by House of Wax
I *would* be in favor of Capital Punishment for the Molestation had he been convicted of that, but Id settle for Life Imprisonment. IMO humans (oughta put that in scare-quotes) who prey on children resign their membership in the Human Race and oughta be prevented from doing more damage. But that prevention does not equal "subjected to what they did to others". Wrong is wrong; I see this sort of thing as one of those Moral Absolutes.
"Do unto others..." and all that.

Starbucks faces $5M lawsuit over amount of ice in its iced beverages | Fox News
It says "ice" right in the name of it, so shouldnt it automatically be assumed that ice is the predominant ingredient? It never ceases to amaze me how far people will go for a quick dollar. What happened to people having some pride and dignity for themselves??

Or having the presence of mind and assertiveness to specify how much ice they want if it matters that much to them.
Our society is overrun with lawyers that will take a case like that. The US has more lawyers per capita than any other country. I always blame the lawyers for society`s ills. Got to blame someone.

Why? Seriously..why must there be somebody (in the sense of a specific profession) to blame?
IMO "Society`s Ills" encompass a very complex dynamic and no one factor (let alone one profession) deserves to be singled out for blame.
Just as I posted about bankers- *SURE* there are some subhuman lawyers who profit from [stuff that shouldn`t happen], but none of the lawyers *I* know IRL (and that`s not just eight or ten) are like that. Every member of the legal profession I`ve ever known IRL has been a great human being who does work they can be proud of.
I always wonder if the people who blame the lawyers/bankers/whatever actually know very many members of that profession personally. If I`m wrong, and somebody *does* know predatory bankers and shifty lawyers please correct me, but IMO they`re just an easy target and the few bad apples get all the press.
