    International Detail Association?

Anyone ever heard of this? A customer just told me if I wasn`t part of this he did not want me to do his car(I talked him into any way but still). Apparently it`s some certification you have to pay for.... Any thoughts?

This has been discussed before. I`m torn myself. One of the threads did have a representative chime in. It`s just unsure how the testing is monitored and regulated over the net.
The premise I believe is IDA is to detailers as ASE is to mechanics.
I think it boils down to what your market expects as credentials? Experience or paperwork.....
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

    Re: International Detail Association?

i just went to a website for such an association. you be surprised to see only a few members listed for many states (often one or two only). may be wishful thinking for some and a money making opportunity for others (see their memberships rates and ask what you really get for it). this type of org. has been known for hit and run types of posts on many detailing forums in the past.

    pro`s and con`s either way I suppose.

On the pro side it would be nice to have an organization which can represent detailers and increase professionalism/awareness to the public, similar to ASE when it comes to mechanics.

On the con side, you become limited by the IDA`s ideals. I have had a run in with several of these associations because I simply don`t agree with how they promote detailing nor do I understand the qualifications where setting forth.

Realistically, having a major organization to represent detailers would be a benefit (I think) to many detailers, but several have tried, and none have really come close to succeeding.

It`s a good way for many of their sponsors to sell products.

    Optimum sells products through IDA.

Just another way to market detailing products. Put an emphasis on ethics and practices, then slip in the sales brochure.

    Re: International Detail Association?

kinda seemed like a marketing ploy when I looked it up, just by the brands of products they offered.... I didn`t see menzerna or black fire on there or any other line of that quality only bulk stuff
