    Race Ramps, anyone have them?

i searched on the site & came across an old thread about ramps but the last post was from a few years ago so i decided to make a new thread.
i would love to get a scissor jack lift but my shop is a little tight with 2 cars to work on inside. ive searched for a solution to getting the car off the ground a few inches & come across Race Ramps. im sure alot of people have seen them before.

    so......lets cut to the chase....

does anyone use Race Ramps to help lift the car while detailing? i am getting sick & tired of the back pains from sitting on the ground indian style just to get the bottom of the door! i want to upgrade to one of those comfy looking seats with the rollerskate wheels to roll around on.

as im getting older i need to ditch sitting on the floor & sitting on a milk crate. i want to preserve my back as 33 yrs old will soon be here when march comes around =(

bob willis if you are reading this, can you please post pics of your scissor jack lift. i am almost certain ive seen one in your pics!

    thaks for the help AF,

    Andrew

I don`t think Bob posts over here but he has said his scissor lift is a Snap On.

I haven`t used the Race Ramps, but one of the best cheap solutions I`ve found for working down low is a pit mat:

I`ve got a creeper chair that I got at Harbor Freight for really cheap. I too have terrible back problems and sitting in the floor or bending down just don`t work for me anymore. A lift would be really nice to have but I doubt I ever get one.

this would only replace the pieces of folded up cardboard & assorted pieces of carpet but not really solve anything lol. if you still want to sit on the floor you can invest in a few rubber playground mats.

problem is that im so used to the height of a milk crate. i know i need to come up with a better solution. i have this E46 M3 in the shop right now thats on a couple of pieces of 2"x4`s lol. the 2" lift is actually a big help but honestly, id be happy with 6". ok save the jokes for another time lol.

does anyone on here have one of these setups? this looks like something i could see working well...

Granted, but trust me when I say this thing is MUCH more comfortable than any playground mats you`re likely to find.

Andrew short of a lift I use an anti fatigue mat that allows me to kneel without killing myself. I would buy a lift if I did this everyday.

I have race ramps. Very nice quality, my friend that does graphics and clear bra installs has the old style race ramps when they only came in one solid piece. They will get the front or back of the car up high enough that you don`t need to bend over on a small rolling chair like you want.

I have the small roll up ramps for my Trans Am so I can lift it up just enough to get the jack under. I also like to use them with the normal ramps because the whole car is lifted and I can get a lot further underneath when cleaning

do you put 4 jack stands under the car to play it extra safe or are you just using the race ramps?

could you post a pic of your trans am on the race ramps?

do you have 1 set or 2 sets? i would get 2 sets so the entire car would be lifted.

    thank you...

mats for the floor are good but i dont want to sit on the floor anymore to get the lower sections of the car. no matter what i use to cushion my butt, it doesnt get the job done anymore.

i think with the car lifted even 6" it would also be easier to clay & wax wheels. i wonder if i could slide myself under the car to get to the barrels without removing the wheels, just to clean them a little better after washing them outside first of course.

    thank you for your feedback.

Depending on what I`m working on I might put jack stands under the car but it really just depends.

I only have one set. To use a second set I would have to jack up the car and use the smaller ramps to get the jack in. I don`t have any picutes and my ramps are in storage (garage door spring broke the other day). I`ll see if I can get some pictures soon.

The other (cheaper) option would be to use Rhino ramps. A lot cheaper but I found that they don`t play nice with wet tires.

My twin post lift from Complete Hydraulics was cheaper than that. If I was to purchase an additional lift it would be a bend pak or other major brand scissors lift. I`ve had many type of ramps and there was almost always a clearance problem around spoilers or ground effects or of them scooting around on a slick floor.

those are the same as gojacks. we used to use them in the body shop a long time ago. thats for moving a car around. i was looking at a few of the ramps griots has. im leaning towards the race ramps but not sure yet. i would like to "shop around" a bit some more =)

thaks for all who have helped so far. still waiting to see some pics.
