I`ve never been in a group buy and am not too sure how they work. I just know you can get products cheaper.

Could someone please explain group buys to me?

Basically someone gets the idea to get a bunch of people together to buy a bunch of products at a better rate due to volume. Then after everyone signs up he goes out and purchases them and then delivers the porduct to those who have joined in.

Each does there different. Read a few of the threads for the differences. The neatitems is a good example as Putey did it one way and High Noon did it another.

The other way a group buy can work is when the seller agrees to lower the price once a certain amount of people get in on the deal. then the seller ships out to the buyers. This one is less messy for the person assembling the group buy since 1) he doesn`t have to handle the money and 2) he doesn`t have to handle the shipping. But it also means that the guy putting it together get`s nothing in return (financially) for his efforts (aside for the agreed lower price).

That is mainly how I did the GP with the Klasse. It is really easy that way. The only responsiblity you have is to get the interest up and drive business to the GP.

It`s a site that steals all of the information you put there OR that your "friends" put there with your name, then sells that information to marketing companies, is used by lawyers and insurance companies to deny you due process or coverage, and sets tracking cookies on your computer.

The latest bright idea from Facebook:

"Facebook is testing a new advertising program in which the things you "Like" are turned into advertisements in your friends` feeds. Same goes for locations where you check in. Oh, and you can`t opt out.

If Starbucks is participating in the "sponsored story" ad program, your friends receive double-notification of your fandom: An update in your friend`s newsfeed (because hey, everybody loves spam) and a "sponsored story" ad with your name, and possibly your comment, in the "Meet hot singles in your area," section of their Facebook page."

And before that they tried this:

"(Facebook allowed) third-party app developers on Facebook to be able to access your mobile phone number and home address. Facebook has announced that developers of Facebook apps can now gather the personal contact information from their users. Security firm Sophos describes it as `a move that could herald a new level of danger for Facebook users` and advises users to remove their home address and phone numbers from the network immediately.""

Oh, and this in conjunction with Microsoft and their BING search engine:

"Facebook users who have allowed information to be shared with friends inside Facebook will now show up in profile searches on Bing. Somewhat worryingly, Yiu says that this will occur "even if you have selected not to have profile information show up in public search engines". Yiu quickly goes on to clarify that the information will only be available when users conduct Facebook profile searches within Bing, not general web searches.

Nevertheless, the fact that users can still search for information that you might have blocked off in Facebook is hardly something that will dampen speculation that Facebook is simply looking for any way it can to make money off user data."

And then there was this 2004 comment from the founder of Facebook :

"Loveable Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg called his first few thousand users "dumb f**ks" for trusting him with their data, published IM transcripts show. Facebook hasn`t disputed the authenticity of the transcript."

So, now you know what Facebook is really like - and why I`ll never go there.

    Regards,
    GEWB

I would like to address the concerns of some of our members regarding Facebook, Mark Zukerberg, et al.
We set up the TID Facebook page for those members of the TID family that may not log into TID on a regular basis, but DO log into Facebook regularly.
The TID Facebook page pulls the most recent thread started.
It is sort of an abridged version of TID.
While everyone may not like Facebook, the connection to over 600 million people is hard to ignore.

Granted, Facebook is not for everyone.
Just as Myspace, Friendster, Orkut, and other social networking sites were not for everyone, the same goes for Facebook.
It has been bandied about that Mark Zuckerberg "just doesn`t care". Possibly so.
I has also been said that he is a 26 year old nerd who does not have the greatest of social skills.
    This is probably also true.
Undoubtably, he sees the world through a different set of glasses than the rest of us.
Some of this does seem to come forth with some of the ideas and features introduced on Facebook. No argument there.
However, the public as a whole does seem to call Mr. Zuckerberg on this and the staff at Facebook takes quick action to remedy the situation.

To be sure, Google`s former CEO made a comment one time that it was their method to "go right up to being creepy and then back off".
    Remember Google Buzz?
Many of you may not, but it shared your information from your G-Mail account with anyone who may have wanted to connect with you on Buzz.
Google`s engineers (again, computer geeks who, at the time saw nothing wrong with what they had done) were called on this "oops" and fixed it right away.

We DO live in a different world than we did 5 to 10 years ago.
Think of the tech stuff you have now that was not in existence 10 years ago.
Bill Gates was still the head of Microsoft, and the richest man in the world.
The world was just beginning to hear about this thing called Google.
The iPhone? Cisco owned that name at the time, and it was for an internet phone.
    Smartphones? DVR`s?
    iPods? iPads? YouTube?
    HydroTech Pads? Megs 105/205?

At one time, Microsoft was the evil empire.
Google has been compared to the Borg (they`re in Star Trek....."Google" them)....."resistance is futile, you will be assimilated!"
Facebook seems to be the evil "flavor of the month".
I`m sure we`ll have another company we love to hate quite soon.
The more things change, the more they seem to stay the same.

I guess the most straightforward answer to the concerns regarding Facebook is that if you are concerned about your privacy and such there, do not use them.
If you do plan use them, be sure to not just "click thru" when setting up your account. Take time to read the Privacy Settings.
If you ARE using them, go back and check your settings.

Just to let you know, we have had a PAC Facebook page for quite some time and the links to it have always been on you TID navigation bar, plus in the toolbar at the bottom of your browser.
But, to go to Facebook, you would have to click on that link.

I hope this addresses some of your concerns.
If any of you have any questions or concerns regarding Facebook, or the TID Facebook page, please be sure to PM me.

I use Emsisoft Anti-Malware software and anytime I click on a Facebook, the warning comes up:

You are about to enter a site that may gather your personal information. Do you wish to proceed?
    Click..NO

My son-in-law is a high paid techie and he warns me that "nothing" is private nor does it remain private online. Nothing.

TID site is good enough for me, Thank you.
