Work Boots

I`m shopping for a good quality, durable, waterproof work boot.

The Red Wing store will be my first stop tomorrow.

What do you guys wear to work in the yard, detail your car, run the snow blower (if applicable).

I`m shopping for the best quality, not price.

When I spent some time at the manufacturing plant, I had a pair of Red Wings. Great boots and worth the price. For working in the yard, or my snowblower duties years ago, I used a par of Timberlands I got from one of their outlet stores for $25. Sill use them to this day when working outside. For washing my car, it is usually flip flops.

Ive got a pair of steel toe Snap On boots Ive worn every day for 3 years. They have had chemicals like laquer thinner spilled on them daily and have held up well to it. Most boots last me under 6 months so I guess the extra money was worth it. By far the most uncomfortable and difficult to break in boot Ive ever bought though.

I love my Justin`s. Lasted me over 3 years before I had to buy a new set. They went through hell and back...Anything from concrete to gas and diesel to the occasional chlorine and anything in between. By far the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever owned. Father had a set of redwings that he loved, but the sole finally gave way on one foot. When I wash my car or truck, It`s usually flip flops...I <3 Florida

Interesting timing of this thread. I just purchased my first pair of work boots. Steel-toe was not a requirement so I opted for the Tony Lama TLX waterproof pitstop boots (western lacers).

Pros:
1) they felt good right out of the box
2) slip resistant
3) oil/chemical resistant
4) nice cushiony feel
5)the price was right (@$140)
6) they don`t look half bad for a work boot

Cons:
1) Made in China - boo I thought all of Tony Lama boots were USA made
2) due to the extra layer of lining material they may be a bit too warm this Summer.

The Ariat H20 Waterhog (also a lacer) were also comfortable, but they only had steel-toe (actually a composite toe) in stock in my size. I may re-visit the Ariat boot w/o the waterproof feature.

And to answer the car wash question, if just one vehicle and it is moderate weather a Teva sandal, but if I`ve got a couple lined up I`ll wear leather tennis shoes. Snow blower? What is that?

I don`t have the same requirements as you, so I use some thing different. As much as it pains me to admit it (and for as much crap as I gave Garry for wearing them) I thinks Croc`s are the best detailing footwear (year-round for me, non-winter months for others). I picked a yellow pair for $8 at the Hallmark store and haven`t worn anything else since for working at home. They don`t get slippery when they are wet like flip-flops, they don`t require socks like shoes do, and with the holes on the top & sides water drains out quickly. Another plus on the holes is a quick spray of water on the top of the Croc`s will cool off your feet!

I did some shopping and fitting at several stores this morning. I settled on the most expensive one, the Red Wing 6" waterproof, insulated work boot, made in USA. The price didn`t shock me either. I was prepared to pay for a quality boot.

I`m 60 years of age so I like to wear support when washing and detailing my cars and working in the yard, especially since the cars on on concrete.

If I wore flip-flops or sneakers all day on concrete I`d feel like an old man at the end of the day.

You guys wear work boots while washing cars? I always thought work boots were better for construction type jobs, not for washing cars with. The only thing I wear while detailing is some good ole fashion vans shoes. Comfort, durability, style, you can`t beat that!

Red Wing has boots designed for the office to the oil rig. Millions of nurses wear Red Wing`s while working. It`s not a one style fits all type boot.

As for the car wash, it`s beyond that, it`s spending 8 hours on my feet "detailing" the family cars. That`s my main interest. I can not just "wash" the car, if you know what I mean?

I know college students who wear work boots to school. It`s cool.

I feel ya on this one! I wear my vans everyday..not nearly as hot and bulky as boots!

I wear work boots everywhere I go. I own 1 pair of tennis shoes and those are just for when I wear shorts. Plus where I work, steel toes are arent mandatory but are good to have. Ive even worn them to weddings
