Yota just can`t catch a break can they?
I think the article is explaining it all. Toyota is erring on the side of more disclosures rather than less.
The problem is that complete honesty works against you which is why most companies prefer to handle these in a less public way.

The Need to Bead
The government issued a subpoena to Toyota a few weeks ago regarding their steering rod problem that dated back 5 or more years and then Toyota had a recall on those vehicles.
This week the NHTSA told Toyota they wanted all records on this steering locking problem dating back to 2005 on the Avalon and suddenly Toyota issues a recall on them.
After paying a 16 million dollar fine for this and faced with having to turn over their records of this problem they do a recall I`ll bet they were going to do it all along
As to comparing Toyota to Ford when Toyota said that their problem with UCA was the CTS throttle Ford halted production on their mini van made and sold in China and did a recall on them because they were using the same throttle.
Ford had not received the first report or complaint but did the recall just to be sure. Yep that sure compares to Toyota`s covering up their problems for years, NO difference at all.
Saying they are just being over cautious is ignoring the fact that all these problem exits and are real.
want a few hours of reading Google Avalon Recalls man they are dozens of them and that is their Flagship auto.
I like my Ford
