I read that this morning and its great, I guess he had a whole film crew watching him go over the million mile mark. Interesting on the oil changes...

I wonder if GM gave him anything, like a good promotion type thing...

That`s crazy. It makes you think if there are any other domestic vehicles on the road with that many miles. That thing must have really been babied.

I would think the salt on the roads here would rust them before they would get that many miles.

    It is definitely a factor.
In years past, the first appearance of rust was the signal for a vehicle to be moved on as far as I was concerned.
In recent years, the problem is not near as bad for us. At one time, 3 to 7 years was about the limit for not having rust problems.
Actually, my 1988 Astro Van went 14 years and 169,000 miles with out any rust showing. It was there, though and because of that, it was gone.
My son`s 1977 Trans Am was full of rust in 4 or 5 years with 176,000 miles on it. His 1995 Honda Prelude was a rust bucket after 6 or 7 years.
I don`t know if the cars are better or the products used for deicing the roads are less corrosive. Whatever they changed, I like it.

Rust does help push things along...I have a 1999 Ford Taurus company car with 154,000 miles on it and it has no rust yet...although its swirled to no end, but now rust yet.

I just bought my 2003 Jeep Liberty this summer and noticed rust on the inside bottom of the door. I`ll have to do my best to fix that this summer. Once it starts it`s usually too late.

The previous owners must have taken pretty good care of it. There is no bug or bird bomb etching. The paint is swirled pretty bad but I can fix that.

It`s like George Burns smoking for 60+ years and never getting cancer - strictly an anomoly, the exception not the rule for domestics. I for one would like to see the service history on this truck.

I recall attending the new car show in Houston a couple of years ago and Volvo was showing off a vehicle that had a 1,000,000 miles on it. I also know that there was a VW Beetle in California with that many documented miles.

    Re: Crappy Domestic Vehicles!

This truck was driven to Chicago to pick up fish and then deliver to restaurants in northern Wisconsin.
He had a refrigerator box on it.
He used 5w30 Pennzoil and changed ever 3000 miles.
GM is going to give him a new truck and Shell is going to give him free oil for the live of his next truck.
Engines that are seldom shut off like long distance truckers rack up much more miles than those driven short trips and a lot of startups
Here is another Chevy Truck with a Million miles on it.

I did a goggle and found three different Chevy trucks with 1 million miles and one F250 Ford

    Re: Crappy Domestic Vehicles!

Personally, I think any vehicle other than over the road trucks going a million miles is pretty rare.
We have run several 135,000 to 175,000, both domestic and import and that took several years on each.
I have a couple of friends that drove vehicles over 300,000 miles and both of them traded because "They were sick of driving them" after that many miles. In both cases, it had become a challenge as to how long they would last. Way to long, it seems.
