Thanks so much for that awesome Porsche video !!!
Wow !! that baby is fast !!!!
Loved it, have loved watching people drive that Nordschleife track for almost 20 years..
Would absolutely love to see Ferrari, or McLaren/Mercedes, Red Bull, take one of their F-1 cars, set it up for the track and let her rip !!!
Well, of course the drivers would have to be very well versed on the incredible, how many turns - 170 - turns now, track with all the changes that come so quickly and even in a blink of an eye in cars of the caliber shown here..
It would be simply amazing !!!
I believe a long time ago, F-1 did race there, but I think too many people died, so they quit doing it there..
Thanks again !

Awesome video - almost looks like someone fast forwarded the footage the speeds are so unreal. Thing sounds crazy too!

I don`t believe I could take that
ride with Sabine Schmitz; she
is very fast on that track. I
have seen many videos of her
driving that track.

The "fast-forward" effect is mind warping, isn`t it? And just to think that 919 Evo has more speed left in it on the long straights, the car is sitting near the rev-limiter every time it gets the chance. Rumor has it, the 919 Evo could shave some more time off the 5:19, which is nuts because the car already averaged 145mph.

I wonder what the theoretical top speed is with the gearing set for such?
That 145 mph average is just crazy.
I saw this video yesterday and was blown away by the speeds.
Sabine is an amazing driver as well and knows that track like the back of her hand.
I would probably poo poo myself if I was in the car with her.
There is another video of her destroying the track in a VW GTI clubsport.
This video makes me smile. The reactions are just priceless.

The really fun test would be to put the same driver in both cars and do some back-to-back runs for a time comparison. Mark Webber would be ideal since he ran both F-1 and campained in the 919 for at least a couple seasons before Porsche pulled the plug on their LMP1 program.
That is eactly why they quit doing F1 there. Jackie Stewart gave it the nickname of the Green Hell after an F-1 race there in the late 60`s, and it`s the same track Niki Lauda had the infamous crash back in the mid `70s that nearly killed him and left him scarred.I believe a long time ago, F-1 did race there, but I think too many people died, so they quit doing it there..
Thanks again !

The car is highly modified and doesn`t even look like it did while campaining in the WEC. Right now Porsche is taking it to famous tracks all over on this "Tribute Tour" and destroying records whereever they go. When they ran it around Spa in Belgium, it destroyed the lap time the same car set in WEC-approved spec by 12 seconds, and actually beat Louis Hamilton`s record setting F-1 time by .8 seconds.
We are seeing the swan song for LMP1 cars and it`s a little sad. The performance put down by the Porsche, Audi, and Toyota cars was mind blowing and I don`t think we`ll see likes of them again...kind of like the Group B rally cars of the 70`s.
Desertnate !
Thanks for the post !
Yes, I really like Mark Webber; followed his F-1 career for over a decade I think.. What a great guy !
Just don`t put Takuma Sato in there...
I dont know if they are racing at Spa Francorchamps this year or not..
I DO know that the blokes who are now calling the F-1 races this year are well... let`s hope they get better.
Pretty hard to beat those guys that did it so well years past, starting with David Hobbs, etc...
Did you catch the Austria race yesterday?
If the McLaren/Mercedes guys had not broken it would have been a different outcome..
I am not surprised that Verstappen won, this kid is amazing - when he is not crashing into people.. Like almost all the rookies I have ever seen in the past 16 years..
Once everyone gets good engines, etc., and nothing BREAKS during the race, we may be in for a treat again..
I love it when there are many who are capable of winning and there are a lot of lead changes until the end...
Remember the boring Michael Schumacher reign ??

Not to derail the conversation about jumping to hyperspace in a 919, but I missed the F1 race yesterday. I was watching the 6-hour IMSA Weathertech race at Watkins Glen.
F1 lost me a couple years ago when it was a lop-sided Mercedes show except for the couple of times their drivers punted each other off the track. I need to start watching again as the updates I read show it`s a much more interesting season.
