Hauling Fuel if the SHTF

So I`m been mumbling my mind with the recent events down south....
And on my todo list that I`ve never formed a concrete plan for..

If the SHTF and you needed to evacuate (not prepper bugout) but just evacuate, there will be masses on the road and for sure, guaranteed, fuel will be sparse and limited.

I have jerry cans on deck - the good ones. they don`t breath They would rather swell than expell...

How would you transport a couple cans of fuel if you needed to evacuate...
Rooftop Cargo box is out of the question. While it`s the most aerodynamic, static boom.

Trailer Hitch Carrier Rack seems to be more forgiving on fuel economy dynamics, but just short of a custom cut /reweld shelf that put`s the cans higher up....it`s prone to be hit by id1ot faring drivers.

Next up would just be a cargo roof basket, but man, 40lbs per jerry can is heavy as F, and weight/balance aside, this is the closest I think is the most feasiable. Sure, there will be a MPG hit, but really, how fast would I be driving if there was a Evac.

See my problem. No good solutions just short of buying a pickup truck <_<

Honestly, I`d be more worried about it disappearing when you stop somewhere than getting rear ended if it was a real SHTF moment.

tarps and a chain running through are obvious standards....

Have you seen the pics of guys filling trash cans or 5 gal buckets for gas on gram/fb. Or the many stories of cars being abandoned on the road during evac as they ran out of the gas.

Sandy put us in a moment where while it has not made me a prepper maniac, when inclement situations arise, I don`t want to be the reactive approach vs. proactive. I live less than a mile off the water....there actually might a be a time down the line where I actually will need to evac out.
