Yea water has been impossible to find since Friday evening. Luckily we got about a dozen gallons in addition to a bunch of empty gallon jugs I can fill up at the house with filtered tap water - better than nothing. Too early to say for certain yet but I`ll probably head North Friday evening.

Stay safe guys. Here`s hoping it turns north and just wanders back out into the Ocean.

I got several cases of water and 5 gallons of ethanol-free gas back in July, so we are set. We will start dumping the ice maker ice into ziploc bags tonight.
I went to the store at lunch to pick up weekly lunch supplies (and get a mojo pork sandwich! mmmm), and they were already out of water, and low on soup.....

    Re: Hurricane Irma

I am concerned on how Irma MAY impact the people who run and work for this forum and the Autopian store. We can only let the storm work its way where it will. I hope those of you may be impacted personally by this historic and life-threating hurricane will take the necessary precautions to be safe. If it means no Autopia forum or store for a while, so be it. Yes, it will be "inconvenient" to this entire detailing community who frequent this forum and utilize the store for their detailing business or hobby, BUT to be uncompassionate and disconcerted about those individuals who make this forum and store possible is inhuman and just plain morally wrong.
I know I sometimes have a difficult time understanding WHY individuals choose to live in areas that are hurricane-prone and the effects that go with such weather. Just as those that jokingly laugh at someone living in the vicinity of the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field, were winters are 4-months long, dark, and sometimes VERY cold and snowy. In both places it`s an easy answer: it`s the place we call HOME.

By the way, there is no such thing as a "Category 6" rating for a hurricane. Category 5 is any hurricane with wind speeds measured or analytically computed to be 157 MPH or greater. And the last Category 5 storm to actually make landfall on the continental USA was Andrew in 1992. Before that it was Camille in 1969. Some remember Hugo in 1989 as a low Category 5 or a very strong Category 4. Why the meteorological and history lesson? Because there are many who have never gone through such a storm. For those who have (or will), the term "hurricane survivor" is fortunate, to say the least.

Good thing about being an autopian, you probably have at least two wash buckets you can fill, maybe more ;-) Also your water heater, while not the perfect drinking water choice, does have a whole lot of water in it, should you need it. TBH, after having gone through this with Fran in 96, after the storm hits, probably want to shut the water off to the house for a while too, the water quality usually goes to crap and they have boil orders. Boil order=stay away from that stuff and keep it out of your pipes.

Stay safe Ron, Ray, Paul and all you other fellow Floridians. Hopefully it`ll pull a Matthew and do minimal damage, although that doesn`t look likely at the moment.

We`ll be riding it out in Melbourne, but if any of you are up this way and need anything feel free to reach out. Otherwise be safe and don`t forget the alcohol!

Best wishes to everyone in FLA, stay safe and prep your belongings just in case. I`m staying in touch with my family in Puerto Rico and people are very worried due to predictions of 3 months without power afterwards (yes the power grid infrastructure sucks) . Last hurricane they had, my friend said they spent almost 2 months with zero power. Good thing is that most homes are concrete so winds are no issue, it`s the aftermath with power and possibly water.

they just closed our very large Tampa office and sent everyone home

    1/3 of the claims organization

they told the rest of us "thanks in advance" and basically buckle up because it`s gonna be crazy for a while
