    Morning not starting well....

Got up to do my Saturday morn wash routine. Nice and quiet. Go down to the garage and find NO POWER. Checked the breakers and reset the main. Still nothing? I could have went out the side garage, but did not feel like dragging my stuff thru it. Rest of the house is fine??

    Re: Morning not starting well....

Start looking around for junction boxes. I`ve seen numerous times where a connection was loose in a nut and burned up without tripping a breaker. I`ve also seen it happen in the neutral bar in the main panel. Unfortunately if something is hidden it won`t be easy to find. Although If this is a rental the owner might not be happy with someone testing the electrical...

    Re: Morning not starting well....

I had the same problem about 10 years ago. Ended up being a wire in the breaker box. Apparently it had come loose over the years and slowly worked it`s way out of the breaker to the point it was barely touching. Ended up overheating/freezing the breaker in the on-position so it wouldn`t cut the power to the wire, and overheating and burning about 3" of the wire coming out of breaker to the family room and kitchen. Could have set the whole damn box on fire, and probably the house. If you pull the panel, be careful, could be a hot wire somewhere!

This is why I do yearly checks of terminals in the panel. Expansion and contraction is not your friend... I`ve seen it alot when people use the cheap back-stabbed plugs and switches.

Depending on where your circuit box is, sometimes finding the "first" connection is a circuit can be fun. It could be an outlet or a switch box.

BINGO! Several outlets in the garage. One had the GFI built in. Pushed the red button in to reset. Got POWER. And really feeling dumb, I knew this, I could have just opened the door manually by pulling on the cord to unlock it.

One of those KISS moments we all do. There`s always time to rebuild the perfectly good engine later.
