Just remember Joe Biden created the gun-free zone act of 1990, 98% of mass shootings have occurred in gun-free zones.

Did they say WHY they did not want to discuss the Bill ??

On another note, I am so impressed by the quality of kids from all grade levels at this school and the way they spoke about this terrible tragedy while being right in the middle of it..
These are some great kids and we need ALL of THEM !

I pray every day that all those that left this world so tragically and their families and loved ones will be taken great care of by the Comforter, and that all will know that they are really ok where they are now...

Nothing can ever substitute for their lives here on earth - especially for their Families, that is a fact...
Let`s all say a little prayer for them in however way we do this, remembering that all prayers are answered...

Seems like the bill was a "ban" against "assault rifles and high cap mags.

I watched the Meeting with the President and Vice President and many people that lost loved ones all the way back to the Columbine shooting..
My heart hurts for those people..
There was lots of great dialogue there; I hope much good comes from it..

Was just thinking afterward - we have all these National Guard Units all around the USA, why haven`t we been using them for things like security in places like schools, etc..???
They are already getting paid, so let`s get our money`s worth...

You do realize that the term "weekend warrior" that we sometimes use for detailers comes from National Guardsmen? That they are only "getting paid" for one weekend a month and 2 weeks active duty training a year...not sure how that is going to work for providing security in schools (unless you call them up to active duty...which is really fairly unpopular with the Guard...takes them away from their families). Speaking for myself, I really disliked the "police state" feel of having soldiers in the airports after 9/11...I personally don`t think that`s a healthy environment for school children to have soldiers in their school. But what do I know? Maybe the more guns in schools the merrier.

Yes, I did realize that they are the Guard - I just did not know what they are doing lately...

And too bad if it seems "unpopular" to be away from your family; this is one of the sacrifices we all made when we joined the Military in the first place, knowing this would happen, but we all did it for our Country..

Would you have rather run the risk of other terrorist cowards blowing up airports you were in, or the discomfort of a few Military guys there, looking out for your life and the lives of everyone else ?

In the meeting today with the President, one nice man stood up and talked about how at their school in DC., they use the TSA model of someone "greeting" everyone coming in the door and then their backpacks going through an ex ray machine, and I think he said they had a metal detector they walked through as well...

It IS a big problem going on since what - 1999, and unfortunately not a whole lot done by congress to specifically address the problems shooting up kids at schools yet..

That this guy Nicholas Cruz was reported to the FBI tip line people over a year ago ( I believe twice) to a call center in W.VA., and nothing came of it, is where the whole thing went wrong for these kids and adults... How sad..

And heard that the Govt. (don`t know if its State or Fed) has been letting Mental Facilities shut down; also does not help at least with people who may have some issues that could be caught early and hopefully get them treatment before things get seriously bad..

Well, lots of good feedback from all those people - this great man stood up and showed everyone the precious picture of his then 7-year-old son who was killed at Sandy Hook, and he talked about how he and many others spent months talking to members of Congress, and finally figured out they had to just go and figure out how to fix this themselves - and they did ! I hope they engage him and all others in more detailed face-to-face meetings, and this time, some great ideas based on experiences and other ways, make this so it will never happen again..

Since you say "this is one of the sacrifices we all made when we joined the Military" I take it you are a vet...which makes it even more puzzling that you don`t seem to remember how the Reserves/Guard work, and that these people are not sitting around during the week with nothing to do, on the gov`t dole, where we could simply "reassign" them to protect schools. They are not Maytag repairmen or suburban firemen. And the people that I know who joined the National Guard, never expected to be called to active duty, except maybe for a few days or a week, in the case, say, of a natural disaster.

And I don`t think we really want to get into a discussion on the effectiveness of the National Guard troops that were stationed in airports after 9/11, and whether they stopped any airports (or aircraft, for that matter) from being "blown up". But I`ll grant you I feel a lot safer flying now that none of the old ladies have knitting needles...some of them are very nasty!
