OUCH. Was going to say craftsman. Have one that is 15+ years, and still runs like new.

Stihl makes the best weed eaters. Strong engines and multiple attachments make it a winner for me.

I`ve had a Tanaka since 2010. They bought out Hitachi and actually had the handheld blower I have from them at Depot.

I`ve never had an easier to use gas trimmer.
The head takes like 3 minutes 2 reload.
Pull off 10` of string. Fold it in half, put the fold in a slit in the split reel and wind both halves. Snap it back on the Wacker .

    Tanaka TBC-230 $200

    Looks like a TCG22 replaced mine. 21cc

Take a look at the manual.

    Products

I`ve had it going on 7 years now. Just moved off a corner property with curb and sidewalk. Used to run it for over an hour every week I mow.

Another Stihl fan boy here. I`ve used a bunch of trimmers over the years and my Stihl FS 90R is defiantly my favorite:

Powerful, yet lower noise and emissions thanks to its 4-mix engine. Easy to start and never gets bogged down. And it has a solid straight drive shaft. Plus it`s made in the USA.

FS 90 R Professional Trimmer | Low Emission Trimmer | STIHL USA Mobile

Might be overkill depending on your needs tho.

Stihl all the way. I have the Stihl KombiSystem and it is great for residential use. I love how I have a single head and can change out attachments for whatever I need. I have the trimmer, weed eater, and brush blade attachments for mine. I would also like to add the pole saw attachment and edger. I don`t recommend the blower attachment for it though. A friend has it and it is a piece of junk.

My folks have the KombiSystem w/ the pole saw, hedge trimmer and an extension. An all around great machine.

Another option out of Japan is the Shindaiwa line of weedeaters. Premium engines, and many models including a series similar to the Stihl Kombi line. The Shindaiwa version offers weed eater end, chainsaw end, brush trimmers, edgers and a espresso end that makes short lunch hours very pleasant and civilized. OK, kidding about the espresso option but the build quality of the Shindaiwa is superb.

    Re: Best weed eater/string trimmer

I have had Echo`s for decades and they dont ever break either..

They have 2 strands in the head and the best part - you just tap the head on the ground to advance more of that thick sharp ribbed line...

If I ever break them ( I have 2), then I might see about getting another one..
They sell several models at H/D and if you can get a 10% coupon and/or a sale, its hard to beat..

A Tune up kit which includes a new air filter, fuel filter and spark plug is not very much and you dont even have to change it after a year or more either..
I would always look at the air filter though if you are using it in dusty conditions...

Like I said, I cant break them and I have edged miles of grass and weeds and its a lot of miles because I run the edge down from 2 directions...
Yeah, I know, the things one does for that Perfect Lawn and Sharp, Straight Edge...

    Good Luck !

You can pick up a midline Stihl for less than $200. I think 9 years ago when I bought my second it was $180. Thing still runs perfect.

    Re: Best weed eater/string trimmer

I`m in the market for one as well.

I may be crazy - but I`m considering an 80v lithium ion rechargeable one from Lowes. Reviews seems decent - run time is about 90 mins a charge. Would be nice to have one less engine to deal with.
