The Navy has some very young people operating some immense weapons of war. Years ago, I had to opportunity to go on a dependent`s day cruise on the USS Coral Sea. One of the last remaining WWII era carriers. It was eye opening who is manning these ships..many young just out of high school people. I have been following the USS Halsey, a guided missile destroyer, and see no difference these days.

Of course, it makes sense since they can mostly be educated and molded just all services rely on.

It was a great experience with aircraft launches on deck, touch and go`s, and some bombing nearby. I was surprised they did this while civilians were on the carrier deck.

Bunky- Yes indeed! Talking with some WWII vets who operated Serious Hardware at 17-18 just blew me away...they dropped out of HS and shortly thereafter were running "dangerous stuff that kids shouldn`t be trusted around" (to hear some people talk). They did fine and developed a "life is serious, take it seriously" mindset.

Heh heh, Darwinism has a way of catching up to those...uhm...[individuals]. Still amazes me when I hear of such stuff though.

I spent 2 years as a company commander and I saw some of the brightest and some of the dumbest of America`s Finest. The bright ones were always the most trouble. They thought they were smarter than the guys in command. There were always plenty of rocks to paint to prove to the smart ones that they were not all that smart.

That`s the old "I`ll cross that bridge when I get to it" mindset.
The devil made me do it the first time.
The second time I done it on my own.

The only good thing about getting old is no longer having to worry about dying young.

Kind of cool to be fartin` around on a vendor website and run across your car. Bought the emblem from a GM parts place. They asked for pics and permission to use them. I guess they must sell to other businesses too. Hopefully there is a discount in my future for advertising fees

they`re giving away a new car on price is right and one of the other prizes is weekly car washes for a year- that could end badly

anyways they had the price at $780 - definitely one of those tunnel wash places

she won! some scratches for her new car

too bad she can`t trade that 780 in for a polish and good coating

    Re: Random thoughts thread

I stumbled upon an optimum podcast on facebook last night and ended up staying up until 4am listening to a few other of the podcasts.

I can`t believe I am just now starting to listen to these podcasts but there is some great info in there and I think I`m going to have to slowly listen to each and every one.

I listen on my way home for work. Much better than local radio here in the Atlanta area.

    Re: Random thoughts thread

I haven`t been able to detail the family cars for a while due to being out of town and other family obligations this past month. They are so dirty its driving me crazy. Hopefully I will have some time this weekend with it being a long one and I am off work Monday and Tuesday. It drives me nuts and I obsess over it lol. How do you guys deal if you have not been able to detail your rides for a while? Maybe I need to meditate.

    Re: Random thoughts thread

RaydiantDetail- [WARNING: Autopian Heresy follows..] Eh, I just don`t care, that`s how *I* deal with it For me, it`s an Urgent vs. Important type of decision; I make the decision and that`s that.

When I have to prioritize one thing over another, that less-important thing just has to wait and I don`t stress over it. Heh heh, the cosmetic condition of our vehicles is just not one of Life`s Big Priorities IMO.

I bet your "maybe I need to meditate" was at least partially facetious, and no I don`t meditate myself...but I can`t help but think "well, whatever works for you".

EDIT: Oh, sheesh..I bet the above is like....least helpful response imaginable
