Re: Random thoughts thread
I took my 370Z into a Nissan dealer and had to remind them about correct air pressure and what type of oil was supposed to be used. The service people just kept saying "we don`t get many of these in here" and they had one in the showroom. Don`t expect anyone to know anything about your car, they just want to sell you something.

But they tell us they`re "experts".

Its totally frustrating that I know more from my research before I walk into the showroom, and the few questions I have cannot be answered. Its been a week and I called 1x for my answers, and still no answer.
I am beginning to become a proponent of buying the car on the internet and just having service locations. The test drive would have to be out of the service locations.
I couldn`t agree more. They generally serve no other purpose for me other than being a pain in my backside. I do plenty of research before I step through the door. The only thing I need is someone to get me the keys so I can drive and look the car over, and direct me to the person that has final say on the sale price of the vehicle.

That`s what the Subaru service dept. said about the manual in my nearly-new Outback when the clutch pedal was acting up (as in, "ya couldn`t drive the car"- acting up). I kept *telling* them what the problem was and, after weeks of their [messing] around trying stuff that clearly wasn`t the issue, they agreed to try my suggestiuon with the understanding that if that didn`t solve the problem I`d pay for it. Solved the problem. Sold the car the next week. Should`ve learned my lesson but I bought a WRX a few years later...sold that one with the CEL still on after *it* spent more time in the shop than on the road..."we don`t see too many WRX`s".
Re: Random thoughts thread
I agree about clueless car salesmen. I guess they just don`t take pride in their jobs. If you want to be the best car salesman, it would only make sense that you want to learn everything about the product or car you`re selling.
Luckily most motorcycle dealership sales guys I`ve dealt with have shown me they take a lot of pride in their jobs. Even when I go for an oil change I`ll end up looking at other motorcycles and usually end up learning something new.

I wonder if motorcycle salesmen are more "bike guys" than (most) car salesmen are "car guys". Like...most American males thinks they know from cars and if a guy has the right disposition he`ll think he can be a salesman, so any guy who can sell stuff will believe he can be a car salesman. But to sell motorcycles I`d think you have to really *KNOW* what`s what and only serious enthusiasts think they qualify.
Re: Random thoughts thread
That was my exact thought as well
Re: Random thoughts thread
Motorcycles are mostly seen as a hobby also, so people who ride are more interested in them in that aspect as well. Where as a car is just a form of transportation for the vast majority and seen as nothing more, which is why half the people buying a car aren`t exactly interested in all of its capabilities. If you`re an enthusiast then you most likely know exactly what it is you`re looking for in a car and once you narrow it down you learn as much as you can about it. So unless the salesperson is also an enthusiast then I can understand why they don`t know a whole lot about the cars they sell. But I see that as an advantage, if you know more about the car you want to buy than the salesperson then that shows you`re not just kicking tires and are serious, in which case they may work with you a little more. Although YMMV.
Re: Random thoughts thread
The strange duality of being a Mopar guy and detail enthusiasts and having to link up with two other peoples busy schedules to work on a hellcat challenger and charger.
Worth calling into the day job for when the day finally links if you ask me...not able to do the Red Tri Coat Cat tomorrow afterall.
Damn.

Re: Random thoughts thread
Thankfully the winter has been pretty mild with a few cold blasts, and I have yet to shovel which is a plus. Honestly, I`ll deal with a few months of cold and snow to have the nice warm weather during the long summer days. It`s too hot to be out all day in Florida summers, so you get the nice weather in the winter when the suns gone by 5. And no hurricanes! And down in southern Ohio there are a lot of beautiful rodes for riding/driving, Florida is just flat ha.
Although if I had the ability to move I`d prefer one of the Carolinas, best of both worlds in my opinion.
