that looks really good. Nice work. the only thing i would add would be some info on how they can get started, maybe i missed it but i know if there was a presentation on detailing i would want to knwo how i can do it myself. Maybe tell them about some otc products that work well and are easy to use, or tell them about dc (if alright with Dwanye (sp sry)) also tell them about a few websites with info on how to get started and what to do. Lead them onto the path of a wonderfull car. i think it would be a cool and to kinda get them started. this is just my vey humble opion.. but thats what i would want to hear.

Thanks. It`s supposed to be a speech on something I`m an expert on. I may not be an expert, but I know that I know more than anyone in my class. The instructor said he hopes others will learn a thing or two along the way. I know a majority of this is going to be over most peoples` head anyway so adding a couple of websites for people that I get interested is a great idea. I tried to give them the basic information for those that won`t take it any farther, under "basic cleaning". I have seen some of the students` rides after class and if I can get them to do the basic stuff, that would be a 100% improvement. I`ll try to be a little more specific though.

Can you use powerpoint? If so, some b/a pics would be fantastic.

Thanks guys, I`m not the best at doing outlines, but once I start the speech I just fly through it, hardly looking at the outline.

pogo, I will make sure to send them to DC.
PEI, unfortunately I can`t use PowerPoint. That would be great though.
Greg, It definitly is. The last speech was on something we weren`t an expert on and that he picked. Probably the only time I could be on DC and honestly say that I am working on school.

Re: Auto Detailing speech for school

I just got done doing the exact same thing for my communications class; the only thing I will warn you is that the outline you have is way too broad. It will take more than 5-7 minutes for you to describe all of the different parts of cleaning you`ve got listed there (ask me how I know.... lol). Actually when I did my presentation, I got a scrap panel from a body shop and showed a before-after comparison of buffing scratches out with a rotary. Of course, in doing so I went over on time (11 minutes total) and got docked points for it

Also doesn`t help that I somehow managed to splatter the front of the classroom with DACP

Re: Auto Detailing speech for school

I`d take out a lot of that stuff and just stick to the basics. I think people will get really bored and confused fast. Stuff I don`t think that you need:
    II. Car Washing
    __A. What not to use
    ____1. Dish Soap
    ______a. Strip all the protection
    ______b. Dull the finish
    ____2. Using a sponge
    ______a. Traps dirt
    ______b. Causes swirls (spider webbing)
    ____3. Drying with bath towel
______a. Most use abrasive polyester fibers
    ____4. Windex (ammonia products)
    ______a. Can stain dash
    ____5. Avoid automatic car washes
______a. Lots of dirt from previous cars
    ______b. Major cause of swirls
    ____4. Burn marks
______a. Cut fibers from hidden area
______b. Super glue on burn mark
______c. Sprinkle carpet fibers over mark
____6. Wipe door jams using a quick detailer spray
    ____7. Make final inspection

You have a lot of stuff to talk about and I don`t think that you`d be able to make your point about everything you want to. You don`t need to stand up there and tell people how NOT to clean a car but spend time and making your point of the RIGHT things to do. Maybe not bother to mention the Woolite mix but keep it general to a plastic cleaner/protectant or something that people might remember. From the others standpoint I think you`d be better off by sticking to basic washing, drying, polishing, protecting and interior and stuff like that.

Re: Auto Detailing speech for school

I know it`s pretty broad. I wasn`t sure if I should get rid of some stuff and make it more specific. I`m just afraid I`m going go to far and everyone is going to be lost because most of these people don`t know the difference between a clear coat and wax.

I guess I need to stop worrying about trying to save these peoples` car. The main part of the assignment is to tell not teach these people about what I`m an expert on and if they learn some stuff, great. I guess I just feel like I`m wasting my time by explaining how to use an orbital buffer because most of them will never touch one. Same with some of the other stuff

Budman, your right. I might offend someone as well by saying things not to do.

Shiney, getting an old panel is a great idea. I would definitely do it if the speech wasn`t this afternoon. I knew I should have done the outline and posted it earlier. Damn procrastination.

I can just picture the DACP all over. OOPS! I think I`m going to avoid bringing in chemicals.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

If i remeber right, gregcavi did like a 5-7 min speech on just washing and drying a car, and maybe doing the tires and wheels. So if you want to fit a whole detail in, then talk very very fast, do the more limited version that was posted above. Practice it just to make sure.

Talking Re: Auto Detailing speech for school

Well I got an "A" on the speech. Took everyone’s` advice and made some changes. I was able to get through it in 6 minutes and 33 seconds (yes I was going fast). Even better is I`ve scheduled a detail this weekend with my instructor . I guess he was impressed with my knowledge. I hardly had to look at the outline so it allowed me to walk around from the podium, which no one else did. After I was done, I had to watch myself on tape and it confirmed how well it went.

I was last today, so I saw everyone else go. I wasn`t impressed and it just gave me more confidence. Some of the other speeches included, Star Wars, Marijuana, having a picnic, lamps, and fish.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Well, I suppose if the person was a pot-head, that would make them an expert.... I don`t know that it would be smart to admit to that, though...

Yeah, I`ve talked to him before, he`s in another one of my classes. He`s been arrested like 5-6 times for drugs and 1 was a felony. He claimed to have stopped smoking, but his whole speech was on why the government says it`s illegal and how it`s not bad at all. The instructor specifically said several times, "No sex drug, or alcohol speeches". The funniest part was when he repeated that pot does cause loss in short term memory 3 times during the speech. HAHA. I guess it really does.
