Do you remember when the big debate was whether you were a Chevy or Ford person? I don`t mean to leave out Dodge/Plymouth, but Chevy/Ford was the Coke vs Pepsi of the time. Now, I think you could use Honda vs Toyota, BMW vs Audi, or any number of products that have die hard fans. I have a theory that if you fall into one product and it suits you, then nothing else will feel right - EVER! Here`s why I feel this way - I grew up in the 70`s, would rather walk than ride in a Ford, even though all my Chevy, Pontiac cars were basically crap that I worked on way too much. I still thought GM was great, the few times I bought Fords, never kept them long and even though they didn`t blow an engine or interior self destruct (Pontiac), I just didn`t like them and still thought higher of the Chevys. Doesn`t make sense does it? I grew up and started buying other brands, I found that I strongly prefered Toyota over Honda, with Mazda my second pick, Nissan - liked in the past, not sure now. Chevy? nope, no love anymore, So, recently I tried a Ford again - last Ford was a 1984 T-bird, so I got a 2011 Tuarus, kept it 5 months and although it had transmission issues, and stayed in the shop a week, it wasn`t that, it was something I can`t quite put into words, but I just didn`t love this car. On paper, it was great, I got a steal of a deal, it was low miles, clean, family loved the fat car ride and I liked the 3 body trunk. But, no love.

A buddy of mine put it this way, " when you do something purely in a bean counter mindset, you lose the special passion factor" ok, what do mean I asked. He said it`s like wanting to go out Saturday night and get a lap dance and then deciding, I`ll ask my sister to do it, she`s a woman, doesn`t have plans. Whoa bro, I GET IT! So, think about it, ever have someone just love a product that is just meh to you? They can`t understand you and you don`t get them either. Now, it gets more serious the more money involved and the bigger the product like cars or trucks. But that what makes life interesting and lord knows how dull it would be if we didn`t have choices.

POISON - I am poison to: Ford, Honda, Cub Cadet, Baretta, Lee jeans, any chick flick, Coke, FK products, any ketchup that ain`t Heinz, beer in green bottles, and a bunch of other crap. So what does this mean, well, if you`re ever in a situation where you have to choose between several things, go with the one that stirs your soul, makes you smile or brings you inner pride & joy. It may be the cheaper option but price shouldn`t be the main factor. Lastly, say it`s something you always wanted but never got, like you wanted that motorcycle but wife/parents had a cow - and now you can buy one, don`t, take the rider training and rent a bike for a few days. You`ll either love it, scare yourself to death or donate body parts to some lucky person(s)!
All I have in this world is my word, and my balls and I don`t break `em for no one, you understand?"

Yeah, I had a bunch of cars-to-die-for (and they might coulda been cars to die *in* ) and the truth is I didn`t enjoy driving `em all that much. These days some of my pals are pretty :nixweiss about my choice of vehicles, but it`s all about what Accumulatorette and I want and [&^%#] what anybody else thinks.

Glad you mentioned that "take...training". There`s a reason why lots of fun things are called "Doctor Killers".

And ya know...the more serious I get about my driver`s training, the less interest I have in driving what people expect me to want.

I think a lot of cars have what I call "kid`s bedroom wall poster" syndrome. Awesome to look at, enjoyable to work on, even nice to get the chance to drive once or twice, but not all that great to actually LIVE with. Might seem like a great idea on paper, but in reality they don`t really have as much of a practical purpose in the real world.

Guess at the end of the day, the only way to own cars like that is to own multiple vehicles so any one vehicle doesn`t HAVE to serve multiple purposes/be practical in general.

Several of the 60`s British cars com to mind. While they are collectible now anyone who has driven them in downpours knows what I`m talking about.
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

Lucas actually invented intermittent windshield wipers.

And intermittent headlights, intermittent car radio, & and the ever popular intermittent charging system.
The devil made me do it the first time.
The second time I done it on my own.

The only good thing about getting old is no longer having to worry about dying young.

The electronics are one thing but having to wear a poncho to keep dry inside is another.

Let`s NOT forget the popular late 60`s/early 70`s Camaros, Mustangs, Chevelles, etc - basically anything that was easy to add rear air shocks, stupid wide tires, 8-tracks, and last but not least, headers with the classic glasspaks! Now you were "cool"

I think if anyone in their early 20`s were to drive one of these beasts now, they would understand why we smoked as much weed back then.........oh, yeah, I didn`t inhale!

I drove a 64 Mustang from Memphis to Jackson MS once. The front end was so loose I could barely hold it between the lines. What a miserable trip that was

I do not like GM cars as a rule. I have generally like Fords but never owned one until recently (my MKZ).

I had bad experiences with my first 3M car so I have always viewed them negatively. I found I just did not like the handling (Chevy full size, Impala, S10. I liked Chrysler products despite their reputation for reliability.
