    Most Memoralbe Response

I thought I would start a thread where everyone can give their own answer, and nobody can be wrong. What is the most memorable response you have gotten from someone after a detail? This could be a customer, friend or family member. Mine was from a lady who was getting her husband`s truck detailed before she put it for sale. The husband had past away and a year had gone by since the thing was cleaned. She told me before I got started that there wasn`t a week that went by that he wouldn`t give it a wash, but that she was unable to keep it up. The truck was a 2002 Dodge Ram blk in color and needed every thing I had. After completing the job I went to the door and let her know I was leaving "WOW" thats all I heard. She gave me hugh hug and couldn`t believe the outcome. She changed her mind, and decided not to sale the truck. It`s always nice to get a great responce from someone, and to me it is more rewarding than a tip.

    Re: Most Memoralbe Response

My most memorable response came several days after the detail. The owner came looking for me (it was a coworker) and said that he had been to a family get together over the weekend and there was some controversy over his truck. His brother had a bet going with an uncle that the truck had been repainted. They finally brought the issue up to my customer to find out what the deal was. When he told them that it wasn`t repainted they both dropped their jaws. As a result I got the brother`s BMW and Porsche the next week and the uncle`s Dodge a week later.

This was the truck in question:

All I did was clean it with AIO and top it with UPP. Gotta love 15 year old oxidized red paint.

    I`ve heard these many times

" it wasn`t that clean when I brought it"

"How did you get that area clean"

I would have to say it was a somewhat regular customer who brought her 9.3 Saab, Blue for a complete detail. Mind you, this lady is in her mid-40s who mountain bikes competitively-- so lets say she is KICKIN. The car needed alot of love inside/out and we were happy to oblige. She came to pick up the vehicle and just as we were finishing the `unwrapping` (we cover our vehicles once completed) she said " Oh my God--- I think I am going to have an ORGASM!!!!" It is always a pleasure when she returns.

No. 1 - When I picked a friend up to go to lunch, his comment, "Another new van?"
The van had over 135,000 miles on it at the time. FWIW, it still looked the same at 153,000 when I sold it.

No. 2 - "Don`t you ever drive this thing?" The car had 106,000 miles on it so I just said, "Once in a while".

Well, I haven`t done many details, but the one that has annoyed me the most out of the ones i`ve done is "how`d ya get it so smooth?" as they run their hand over the car leaving greasy finger prints and scuffs on the paint that I just spent a couple hours perfecting.

Not that I am trying to top here but had a similar experience two years ago when I detailed my brothers Escalade. When I was done my sister-in-law walked into the garage and felt the paint which had been treated to a layer of FMJ. She stated,"This paint is so smooth it is almost orgasmic!"

    Yeah no kidding....

I`d have to say the "most memorable" was from a customer who brought me his beat up, nasty `92 Grand Am. It had apparently belonged to his sister before he got it, and it had *NEVER* been cleaned up thoroughly, and had been occupied by pets, messy people, food, etc. And this was a detail done in 2005 -- so that means it was 13 years of nasty grime inside this car that rarely was ever treated to any attention.

    Befores (click for full size):

    Afters (click for full size):

When he came back, his reaction was that I had "Taken the interior of this car back 6 years in time!!" -- which was probably semi close to true, since the carpets had dirt way too embedded for anything I threw at it to make it come clean in spots.

    Re: Most Memoralbe Response

it isn`t a comment, but one of the things i find gratifying is that i am the requested detailer for fellow employees, and the sales people when they have important deliveries. to me that says more than words as far as how much they trust my work. makes you feel good inside. but i have never caused an orgasim yet.
