Well me and my Fiance are going to NY for a weekend I have a few things planned but have the first night free to have a few drinks and relax. I am 30yo and done with partying just looking for a nice modern contemporary place with a nice atmosphere and good drinks. I am staying on Madison Ave.

Any ideas of where to go or what to see let me know, first time there in a while.

    thanx in advance,

    Danny

NY is great and I`m under an hour away. Sadly, we haven`t started to frequent there until this past year. Unfortunately, we mainly go in for events and shows, not drinks and food so it will be hard to direct you.

I`m sure there will be a few who chime in with recommendations. Have fun.

I am assuming Madison in mid-town?

Best hotel bar for NOT picking up women -

    The Peninsula Hotel.

    Best "status" hotel bar -

Gansevoort Hotel - Where the ballers, ball, period. (9th ave and 13th st - not midtown)

Parker Meridien. Get brunch there also.

    Best places for cocktails:

Whiskey Park - Central Park South

Nobu 57 - good bar downstairs and the best sushi in NYC

Del Friscos - good bars both up and downstairs. Good scenery.

230 5th - 230 5th ave. Go to the roof bar. Better in the spring/fall. Unbelieveable views fo NYC and beyond.

I dont like places that are just bars. Nightclubs are a no go for me. I like a restaurant with a great bar.

I`d check out the 230-5th Ave that jsatek mentioned... i`ve never been there, but heard great things about it. Now that I think about it, I have never hung out around Madison, and I`m in the city 3-4 times a week.. :nixweiss I also like Scott`s idea though. I don`t know how much free time you have, but I would def recommend just walking around the city, especially around Soho, south street seaport, or battery park. Taking in the sites and seeing the new yorkers is all part of the fun as well...

"where to go" is pretty accurate. People are all in such a rush all the time, they cant stop for anything. People say, "excuse me" to me in the street and I just keep walking.

I was drinking right next to Jason Giambi at the Gansevoort this summer.

He had 2 little "friends" with him that were by far the hottest things on high heels I have ever seen to date. They actually looked like sisters, nice work Jason!

Where do you have reservations to eat?

Go to Wolfgang`s on Park and 33rd on the north west corner.

On a Friday you may be able to get in with no drama.

Better than Peter Lugars if you like red meat. -I`m ready for the flaming. lets go.

Nope, way better then Puck. Puck is like an airline chef next to this joint.

If its slammed there, go to Bar Americain on 52nd st and 6th (ave of Americas). One of Bobby Flay`s joints. The ONLY two things to eat there are the Gorgonzola bread appetizer and the Pork Chop main course. The place is really nice also. There are plenty of little bars nearby to go in and drink. Its also around the block from the best restaurant in NYC LeBernadin. I used to work in the building above, been to every restaurant on the block 50 times.
