Ok, I have a fiberglass tub and I need to cut a lip off of it so the Durarock will fit snug to the tub. I need to cut this lip off without shattering the fiberglass.

Due you have a small trim router like a rotozip or a laminate trimmer? If you do that would make it easy but messy. You can score it several times to cut throught the hard layer and then it will be easy to snap off. Be very careful not to dammabe the tubs enammel jell coat. I have used a recip saw with a cut off blade to cut it as well as a jig saw with a fine tooth blade.

use a fine tooth saw? the smaller the teeth the less `choppy` the cut. Then again the blade probably wont last all that long with the small teeth :-/

Just as an FYI, no matter what method you choose:

WHERE A MASK AND EYE PROTECTION

WHERE LONG SLEEVES LONG PANTS ....ETC

I found out when I was young (sanding the bottoms of boats getting them ready for bottom paint) that fiberglass ITCHES....alot.....alot and gets everywhere.

Also, it chips easy enough and you can easily get a decent chunk flying up at ya!

Do you any pics of where you need to cut? Might help to try and guide ya on what to use. I am trying to figure out how you`re going to cut it and still make it usuable.

I have used a dremel tool with a cut off wheeel or cut off saw blade and had good results and good control of the cut....I have cut both fiberglass and sheet metal with this tool and it works good for that....

Mine came out really good. I just used a dremel and a cut off wheel.
