Re: Here it is! BOSS - Best of Show System!

From my conversations with multiple people at Rupes, these recent long throw machines are not hurting their market share much, if any. Mainly because Rupes primary target market isn`t Detailers. It`s the Paint & Body Shop industry. In fact, their sales has gained traction tremendously in the last few years and continues to do so at a very rapid pace. The people selling other long throw machines are not very strong (pretty much non-existent) in this market and it will really take quite a bit of organization by a really large player to threaten things. Not saying it couldn`t happen, but perhaps not that quickly. Sure, one of these companies could knock on a couple doors, but do they really have the support structure in place that the Body Shop industry demands?

I think most people forget that paint and body shops are a necessity and everybody needs one at one time or another...detailers are not. Rupes knows what side their bread is buttered.

Thanks Mr. Hahn. I checked out the Dynabrades... Made in USA stamped proudly on their handles. I wish they would step into the enthusiast fray. I would buy one, but not pneumatic I`m afraid. I like new information. I researched polishers thoroughly when deciding to upgrade and went with Rupes over Flex and I am very happy, so happy I bought a mini here. I wonder if GG is going to stand pat or throw a copy of the mini into the fray and drop the underpowered 3 inch. The mini is a great machine.

    Hey Ray,

What does this mean in layman`s terms?

Technically the GG6 is it`s competition. Just as the LHR75E is to the GG3.

The guarantee (lifetime) refers to defects in manufacturing or parts. The warranty (2 years) covers wear caused by "normal" use of the tool. So, 2 years if you break it in the context of normal use, or lifetime if it breaks because of something being wrong with it when it left the factory.

Neither of of these things mean that they will replace it no questions asked. If Griots determines that it broke because you didn`t use it properly, you`re on your own even the day after you bought it.

Griots can choose to replace anything at any time. But they don`t have to unless the problem falls within the guarantee or warranty periods.

Thanks for the explanation Robert Shapiro. Looks to me Griots warranty isn`t what it use to be ...

Well my only hope now is that Sears copies the Griot`s Boss machines offering a 900w motor with interchangeable heads. (15mm or 21mm) . $200 price range and $100 for the other head.

Not like anyone cares, but I think I`ve officially changed my opinion of this system. My initial reaction was it was just an overpriced knock off, but after watching all BOSS videos - it does seem like a lot of thought and work went into it.

IMHO, the only weak point of the Rupes is that it bogs down on certain complex panels. It seems Griot`s has addressed this - or has tried to minimize it. I also agree that the Rupes cord kind of sucks - it just wants to stay in what position it was stored in.

Still think Griot`s would sell a ton more of these of they were a few bucks cheaper.

I agree, no one cares. HA! Just kidding, Swanic.

After watching a Rasky`s video (hat tip to you sir - excellent overview video) and reading all of the post about it here and over on AG, The Boss certainly does seem like a decent machine that Griots put a great deal of thought into getting right. Please allow me to take back my "Chinese knock off" comment from a few days ago.

The price still kills me, and wish it was cheaper since I can`t justify buying another buffer.

Hey Vega, how about a BOSS system giveaway?!?

Wild guess- The new polishers won`t be on sale for a while because they`re new.

I understand the scaling-back on the warranty, but I`m not happy about it.

I sure don`t need any more polishers, but I`d be torn between this new Griot`s and buying a Rupes from Kevin.

Maybe they started at this price point to give AG some room to discount it at a latter date.
