Heh heh, sounds like one plate is going to cost nearly as much as the Chicago rotary itself I was just at Pep Boys yesterday and examined the Vector for $60. If the Chicago at $25 does as good for occasional use as the $300 Fein then absolutely it`s a no brainer :xyxthumbs

Sounds to me every Autopian should have something like this, if nothing more than as a "back up" to attack severely swirled paint.

I may have a contact to get a body panel or two to practice on. If that`s a go, I think I`m getting the Chicago for the small investment. Thanks Jim :bounce

I was about to buy the Chicago@harborfreight, but it`s now $50 Sad. Anyone knows if it can still be bought for $25 somewhere else?

Agarwal, try ordering it online with the item number, 46507-2YEA. That was the number when it was $24.99. Otherwise, it goes on sale frequently.

I`ve used it. It`s not so hard to use. Commoon sense seems to take over pretty quickly.

Nope, using that number just brings back the item with the $50 price. Yep,going to have to wait or look on ebay, even the two on there right now would probably go for $50 after shipping

I`d just call them (1-800-423-2567) or even give their online support thing a try.

Click life help on this page: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/cs.taf

tell them you saw it online/in their catalogue for $24.99...see if they let you get it for that...I don`t know how flexible they are.

Jim <--- probably going to pick one up tomorrow, if the PC/DACP doesn`t do the trick on the acid rain etching.

Still on sale as of the 17th of May...Looks like a deal! I actually used a cheaper polisher from Advance Auto (don`t laugh) as my first high speed buffer. I first tried it on my Mother In Laws car (97 Camry~Dark Red) for a complete full detailing of her car as a Mother`s Day present. This car is never washed and was in bad need of some TLC! I washed it and dried it, then applied Hi Temp Light Power Cut Leveler with the 7" high speed. I could only stand back and smile at the results that were made with this low priced polisher...especially for my first time! I topped it with S100 after another wash and dry and was blown away! Upon seeing it Mother`s Day morning, she almost cried...Other family members seen it and was after me all day to do their cars...Sorry for the long story but I just had to share it for those who feel a lower priced tool may not produce desired results...I`m a believer!

The CE version works fine at home...All day at a business I think it would overheat. One thing to remember on these is the dial setting is different than normal...ie. 1 is 500 rpm, 2 is 1000, 3 is 1500 etc.

I want to try the new Makita Dual Mode.

If the Chicago Electric and Vector buffers are the same machine, then number 1 would be 1,000 RPM. Each higher number increases the speed approximately 400 RPM. This information comes from a telephone conversation with Vector`s technical support.

I bought my Vector from Pep Boys for $59.99. Sales tax at 6%, but $0.00 shipping.

I just bought it for 24.99 this weekend and need advice on correct pads for minor swirls and polishing. I figure if I go less abrasive I have less to risk…. Any help on pad selection and stuff would be great.

Sorry, no need to be annoying, but I really think this is such a good deal that I needed to bump it. The original link that Jim posted was $25 for a rotary (see rest of this thread). Others said it went back up to $50, now it`s $25 again!!!! Link

I think I`ll be purchasing one for sure, but if you`re interested in getting into rotary polishing, this seems to be a good LOW COST opportunity. If anyone has this machine, could you post your thoughts for others?

    Thanks!
