How To: Create a New Thread and Post a Reply

AutopiaForums is an open internet based car care forum where discussion of all detailing products and discussions is allowed and encouraged. To get the most out of this information sharing you must know how to create new threads or post replies to existing ones.

Thread- A thread is a collection of posts that are in response to a particular topic. When you create a thread you can define the topic of discussion inside the thread title. When you create a thread you also will make the initial or original post in the thread to better define or explain the thread.

    Posting a New Thread.

To post a new thread start at the AutopiaForums homepage. In the upper left hand section select the tab titled Forums (blue arrow)to go the forum page.

Select the section of the forum that best suites the topic of your thread. AutopiaForums offers many difference Thread Sections to make it easy for our members to navigate the forum and find the topics they are looking to discuss or research. If you are going to ask how wipe off a particular wax use the Waxes, Sealants, and LSP`s section. If you have a comment on using a particular wheel cleaner use the Tire, Wheel, Chassis, and Engine Detailing section. If you are unsure where you should post your new thread, do you best to find that category that best describes the intent of your thread and PM a moderator to move it to the appropriate spot.

After selecting the approperiate selection for your new topic you will enter that section. Select NEW THREAD on the upper left hand side (blue arrow).

In the New Thread Creation screen you will enter information that will be posted as the new thread:

Title- Enter the title of your new discussion. The title should be pertinent to the intent of the thread. Double check for any spelling errors as the thread title cannot be edited once the thread has posted.

Body- Enter your original post in this section.

You can select from additional options in the section below the post.

When you are comfortable with your thread and original post select the Submit New Thread button (blue arrows).

Congratulations, you will be taken to your thread, and it will be posted in the section for all to read and response to.

Posting a Response in an Existing Thread.

Posting replies in existing threads is vital to keeping a discussion going. The process of posting a response is very similar to posting a new thread, and in many ways is easier.

To post a reply at the AutopiaForums homepage. In the upper left hand section select the tab titled Forums (blue arrow)to go the forum page. You can also select from the most recent threads on the homepage.

Threads are organized into different sections. Select from one of the many sections of discussions on AutopiaForums.

This will bring up a page inside that section. This is the same page where you can choose to create a new thread. Select the thread you want to view by clicking on the thread title.

After reading the thread you can elect to respond to the topic by selection the POST REPLY button (blue arrows) or by typing your response in the Quick Reply box and selecting Post Quick Reply.

NOTE: Using the Post Quick Reply feature is a great feature for saving time. You cannot attach photographs or select font choice, hyperlinks, or other advanced options when using this feature.

If you choose to use the POST REPLY feature you will enter the Post Reply page. Enter your reply in the large white text box. You can add icons (called smilies) by selecting the moving icon to the right. You can change the color and style of your font, the font characteristics, pictures, hyperlinks, etc by using the buttons above the text body box. When you are satisfied with your response select the Submit Reply button (blue arrow).

That`s it! Your done! Your response will post in a matter of seconds and you will be able to view and edit your response when viewing the thread.

    Todd,

I see you starting a lot of how to threads. This is some pretty rudimentary stuff. Is there a reason for why your doing this?

To help out new members and visitors who may feel intimidated by posting on a forum. When I first started out I was overwhelmed by the options and didn`t know where to start. I want to make sure our members and new guests don`t feel the same way.
