Need tips for sealing new truck

when exactly would you use it? Zaino starts with a Dawn wash, then clay, then the Z-5, etc. Would you use the SWR prior to starting the zaino process?

If you are going to use an abrasive product as part of your paint prep, then there is no need to use Dawn as your initial wash. This is what you`d probably want to do:

1. Wash (car soap)

2. Clay

3. Swirl Remover

4. Zaino

It is optional to wash after SMR. I personally would wash after SMR to remove any grit and oils from paint surface. I am slightly anal and would wash first with Dawn and than follow with Z7.

Nevertheless as Intermezzo states a lot of autopians have received excellent results without washing after SMR and going directly to applying Z.

Of course if you are just spot correcting small areas of the car with SMR just clean those areas and start Z.

I like to Z6 before starting the zaino process and Z6 might not work right over another product if oils are left behind............

I recently emailed Sal Z and asked what to follow SMR application with: Dawn or Z7. He said Z7. I also asked if I needed to re-Z1 or just go to Z2. He said Z1 or ZFX.

I do it by hand. Easy enough. I take it off with 100% cotton white towel.

Hi everyone. I`m new here and have been reading over some posts trying to educate myself on the newest and best products for keeping my truck new looking. I just bought a 2011 Ram truck in Deepwater Blue Pearl that i`d like to keep looking new. Any suggestions on what steps I should take for sealing the paint? I`m sure the truck sat on the lot unprotected for a few months before I bought it.
I think I`m going to use BFWD instead of waxing but are there other steps I should take before washing, drying and applying the sealant by hand. Thanks for any suggestions.

Let me be the first to welcome you to TID.
Before you seal the truck there are a few steps you want to take before hand.

First, does the truck need to be clayed? Chances are, it does. If you are not sure, put your hand inside a plastic baggie and run it across the surface of the paint. If you feel the baggie being grabbed, it is a sign that you need to clay it.

Second step. Inspect the paint for swirls, scratched webbing, or any other paint defect. If there are defects in the paint, you want to polish them out. Are you familiar with the polishing process?

Once you are satisfied with how the paint looks, you can seal it. I love BFWD, and I am sure you will too. You can apply it by hand or machine. Just remember to apply it very thin. You can either apply and remove right away, or wait about 30-45 minutes and then remove (this is what I do).

Thanks everyone. I was kind of thinking that I might need to clay it because after washing and drying, the paint surface still has a rough texture. I`ll order these supplies and see how she turns out. I`m assuming I`ll have to polish the whole vehicle but will have to read up on the process of each of these before doing them. Thanks for the info guys!
