    Picked up a new toy

I finally picked myself up a new toy this week. Only grabbed a quick picture now. Hopefully will be giving it a good cleaning this weekend. It`s an 2004 model with 28,300 miles on it. I do have a question regarding washing a convertible top since this is my first one. I did not order a dedicated top cleaning kit yet, can I just foam the car as any other and just make sure the soap is washed thoroughly out of the top?

Awesome new ride and even better color Picked up a new toy. Always really liked S2000`s. Seem like really fun cars to own. Sorry, can`t really give you any advice on the vert top. I`m kind of a rookie when it comes to convertibles.

    Nice toy !! Enjoy it!

When I had soft tops they said not to "wash" em. I did, never any problem.

So if you`re gonna wash it, use a gentle soap and rinse well, don`t scrub.

Also rag top and a few others have soft top kits.

Wash it lake normal until you get your dedicated "soft top" products. Just don`t aim any high pressure water towards the seams, it might leak a bit (I had a T-top Camaro that I had to be careful with).

Re: Picked up a new toy

I`ve owned many verts. First thing you have to figure out is if the top is fabric or vinyl. Usually Japanese cars use vinyl - but that is not always the case. I`ve never owned a vinyl top - so I`m speaking from experience with fabric here.

Honestly, unless the top is stained or has mildew, the best thing to maintain it with is just carwash soap. But, I would start out with a deep cleaning a bit different....

If it`s cloth, I would go to the local BMW dealer and spend like $9 and get BMW Soft Top Cleaner. Hose the top down, then spray and scrub in the top cleaner. You want to use a medium stiffness brush - something like medium nylon.

Then rinse very well. Once the top is dry, you need to add protection. I`m just going to tell you - I hate RaggTop. The reason is because it`s aerosol and it will get on your glass and paint no matter how careful you are. I don`t think it lasts nearly as long as 303 either IME. It`s also much more expensive than 303 per application.

I like 303 Fabric Protector. But, I don`t spray it on. Dump it in a wide mouth cup and paint it on with a foam paint brush. The bigger the foam paint brush the better - as it goes slower than you would expect. Put it on HEAVY. It will look white and streaky - don`t worry about that.

After its dry, any "streaks" that are left will easily brush off with a DRY cotton towel. Now it will bead like crazy for at least a year - probably 2.

Re: Picked up a new toy

    Love the car !!!!

Used Ragg Top for years in the Northwest - Seattle - the Official Convertible Home - numbering in the hundreds of thousands..

Never had any issue using the Ragg Top soap or the spray sealer that you apply after you wash and thoroughly dry the top... The Cleaner is really good at removing stains and things off the canvas...

I also used my Mytee HP60 Extractor to rinse a 2nd time and extract all the water out of the top, and this really made it beautifully clean and smooth..

This product is made by the people who make the material for convertible tops and has been around for longer than I can remember...

As for getting the sealer on the glass - I guess I must spray in a way that doesnt get hardly any on the glass...
And if I do, it doesnt matter, because you always clean the glass last...
    Good luck !!

Great looking S2K congrats on finding that gem!! Sorry that I personally don`t have a recommendation for the soft top other than what has already been stated.
