That guy is great haha. I can`t believe the BMW had no dip stick. As for the technology, I like a lot of the new car features even though I don`t own a newer car but these examples seem very excessive (especially the Mercedes tail light wire). But even if we think it is too much there is no way to stop it or go back. Everything must always move forward until everything collapses.
All I see when it comes to unnessesary features and gadgets is just more stuff to go wrong later down the road. Wait until these cars are 20 years old and see what electrical nightmares they turn into. Its cool what they can do now days, but I`ll pass on all of it.

Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!
When it went past a simple volume knob for the radio I thought that was too much technology. If I want to fight with a screen to do everything I`ll just reach for my android phone .
what a hoot!! All I will say is that the lack of dipstick would drive me nuts. There are times When people come to me and say things like "man they sure don`t make cars like they used to!" I reply with "man I`m glad they don`t make cars like they used to!"
BMW went away from the oil dipstick a few years ago...
They used sensors and the computer to monitor the oil level in the pan..
Then, the sensors started failing... then the sensors got moisture on them because the owners/lessees followed the ridiculous free oil changes marketing hype that helped them justify the ownership, and this of course, is way, way, too long for oil to be in car in my experience...
Germans - you love to hate them.... Just Kidding!!!!!!!

Yea cars have way too much gadgets nowadays. I don`t even want a computer shifting for me. Give me a steering wheel, clutch, gas, brake, and I`m perfectly happy...
I do like my power windows and heated seats though....

My friend wanted to show me how his new Mercedes CLA AMG has voice recognition for the GPS. So, first he started talking to it. After a bunch of "your destination is not recognized" ... He started yelling at it... Then more "your destination is not recognized"... It was actually pretty funny...
Finally we just used Google maps.
But, honestly I`ve had really good luck with BMW. I`ve never had anything catastrophic break with the 3 I`ve owned - and only had one "repair" that required the dealer; that was resetting the airbag light when I d/c the battery with something sitting on the seat (can trigger the light). Total cost $60.
Even dumber than the lack of a dipstick on the newer BMWs (mine is an S54 - has a dipstick) is the fact you now have to "familiarize" the battery on the newer BMWs with the ECM - which requires a trip to the dealership. No more changing your own battery.
Also, a lot of the newer cars do not have drains for the differentials and possibly transfer cases. So, it makes changing the gear oil a nightmare of trying to suck it out of the fill hole with a suction device. I guess for most people changing the gear oil is going the way of the dodo bird.
Next they will probably make it so you can`t change your own oil somehow.
I brought a new KIA Optima in December last year and love the car for all it`s electronic gadgets. For me the new cars rock!
Ronh I finally made the jump from BMW and haven`t looked back

Well, then there is this fallacy that the automakers put out about "Lifetime Oil", in the transmission, differential, transfer cases, etc., of vehicles...
And people Believe this to be true !!!
Had that awesome S54 engine in a new 2002 Z3 M Coupe, and it was a stunning piece of engineering ! Loved it and the car !!! It does require the Castrol TWS 10W/60 motor oil, and it is a lot more than a bottle of 30weight at the local auto parts..
And at some point it will require a valve adjustment/s...
It`s just that German cars require maintenance - perhaps a little more than other marques - but the trade off is well, either worth it to the owner or not..
And certainly, if the car is leased new and turned in before anything requires maintenance, then we might never really know the rest of what "car ownership" requires, right?
" Or, do you know the difference between a BMW owner and a porcupine? " - this is supposed to read the difference between a Porsche Owner and a porcupine...
