Like Paul S said above cars were cheap back then. When I (finally) got to a land base in the Navy people were constantly being shipped in & out. Those leaving had a car to sell, those arriving needed a car. I became the middle man buying, fixing up, driving for a while, then selling. One was a `58 Ford wagon with a 352 CI Police Interceptor engine, three on the tree, and overdrive....that made it a five speed. I paid $50 for it and sold it for a nice profit down the way.
