Bill D- yeah, I wish I still had my first car...or any of the first few for that matter. I`m sure it gives you a *lot* of pleasure still having it.

Chiming in late to the original question, I`d have to say:
Driving engagement, power, style - but not without COMFORT.
If I can`t fit in a car (I`m tall), or if it hurts my leg or butt, I can`t buy it or enjoy it, so I`d have to say without COMFORT, there`s nothing.

Some classics—especially Corvettes—-IIRC,are tough on tall people. I bet modern German cars are fine though.

Even though I`m only 5`9", I`ve had a terrible time finding cars that I`m not "too tall" for. My head was crushed against the headliner of many cars I had planned to buy and I`ve posted before about seldom fitting with a helmet. Add that to often needing a telescopic steering column, and for a while there I simply couldn`t consider a whole lot of cars I wanted.
Another one is having room between the steering wheel and my thighs. Surprising how many cars were problematic for me that way; that`s why I couldn`t H&T, or really even drive, my wife`s RX7.
I have noticed that I fit into the Audi loaners OK. For ages I was too tall...even with the old V8 Quattros, I fit in my `93 OK but could *not* even come close in my dad`s earlier one even though they`re awfully similar (which is why I never bought a V8Q new). Don`t know what they changed, but it made all the difference, wish I`d known about it back then.
EDIT: I`m trying to remember....but I don`t *think* I had trouble fitting in my `77 `vette, doubt I`d miss it the way I do had it been a problem. (Now those "gotta touch surfaces that show" doorhandles *were* a problem for me..)
