I wonder where the weakest link was?
The crank sure look like it was the strongest component.
I don’t know about it being the main caps, looks to me like the oil pan has a girdle on it that kept the oil pan/girdle/crank/main caps intact after the explosion since the crank is still turning with missing pistons resulting in imbalanced forces, I only can assume that the main caps held the imbalanced crank from walking away. I think cylinder pressures became too much for the block to handle, at 2000hp that diesel motor has be putting out around the 3000ft/lb mark, dang.
I`ve seen catastrophic failures before, but none like that.
