That`s interesting...it`s been so long since I bought a car from somebody who doesn`t know me that I`d forgotten that an ETG might be a surprise.
Although the guy I bought the Crown Vic from, like the guys who had the countless also-rans that I did *not* buy, didn`t bat an eye, acted like it was expected. He had accurately explained which panels where reshot and the quality of the work, can`t fault him a bit. Credit where credit is due and all that, some people who traffic in ex-LE vehicles aren`t all that honest to put it mildly.
Android, Apple Play...huh. We`re finding it hard to get decent rental cars with CD players these days. We still play *cassettes* in some of our cars!

Dan- But that would require a Bluetooth-equipped device to play the CDs/cassettes that we listen to when traveling.
The last rental I had had satellite radio. Maybe that is something you would listen to.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.
Oh we *do* appreciate Sat. Radio! Appreciate it when a Service Loaner is so equipped
But we have a *LOT* of "courses/lectures on disc" (my usual choice for long roadtrips) and Accumulatorette and I both have our "usual traveling music" that we like to enjoy on certain drives.
We actually have a decent sized collection of books on CD which we use for long road trips, and if I`m going on a solo trip in my car I`ll go to the library (remember those places!) and check out something new.
Getting a CD player in a rental car is a crap-shoot at best. Most Hyndai, Kia, GM, and some Fords I`ve been issued do not a CD player. It`s all Bluetooth or USB connections if you want audio other than the radio. Some day, I`ll have to get an Audible subscription or find some longer Podcasts I can stock up on my phone before I depart.
Fwiw they do make USB CD players that work with the USB port on many cars.
I guess it depends on the car, but a good amount of new cars use the usb as aux in. Most people rip CD`s to MP3 and then usb a thumb drive, but for those that still want/need to use a CD:

SD card is where it`s at IMO. My GTI has a SD card slot in the glovebox (which houses the infotainment system) and it has worked really well for me. Just stick it in a forget about it, nothing hanging out to get bumped or broken. I don`t really like Bluetooth as it uses battery life, but that`s just a personal quirk or mine. That and it`s hard to control from just the screen in your car making you fumble trying to get your phone outta your pocket.
