Very nice! My brother has a small 94` Toyota pickup - it`s as barebones as you can get but awesome for hauling random loads of gear/furniture/yard work projects. I love small trucks and wish more were sold in the USA.

In due time, probably piece by piece. Mechanicals are first, need to change the oil in it (even though they just changed it, I`m OCD when it comes to oil/filters) and the brakes are thin. I`m sure I`m going to figure out how to do a u-joint; atleast one of them is getting noisy.

So I was working on removing those ugly 90`s racing decals on the side. Yea... uh, they have been on there so long it etched the paint badly. Whenever time and money allows I will get spray bomb matched at the PPG store and do a spray can blend. With the right technique it can be done and never noticed. Before that she needs front brake lines along with new rotors and pads.

Nizmo- Yikes, sounds like you have some real SKILLS if you can get the spraybomb to work OK!

Remember to paint/etc. the rotor hats and so on...Do they sell Braided Stainless brake lines for that? I was surprised when I found `em for my Tahoe (made for a different vehicle but work perfectly).

It doesn`t matter if it runs...... Just how it looks.

Not necessarily about skill, it`s how you use body lines. It won`t be show car worthy, but the average Joe will know no difference.

Not sure what my mechanic will use as far as brake lines; it`s up to him. I`m sure as it stands they will last a couple years, but driving down the mountain I`m taking no risk. It`s been a while since I packed wheel bearings, but it looks like on this truck the wheel bearings are in the rotors. As cheap as they are might as well get new bearings and seals!

Come on now Ron, it`s a $3,000 truck, not a show car!

Snapped a couple pics of the damage:

For grins and giggles I was playing around with the hood. SSR2.5 and SSR1

While I was waiting for the oil to drain yesterday I decided to check the air filter. Kind of a surprise when I opened the housing. Whoever thought there would be any performance gains......

You`d be surprised, maybe no performance gains, but in MPG gains, I usually saw an easy 2-3 mpg increase when I dropped in a K&N. Even my Camaro gained about 3-4 (IF I drive nice) on the highway.

I had an `86 Toyota 1/2 ton I inherited from my FIL. 4 cyl manual trans, I loved that truck. You couldn`t kill it. It used a quart of oil per tank of gas, but I was able to run side by side with a `96 `Corvette GS at 110 mph (I have NO DOUBTS he let me) which was kind of cool. The thing handled like a sports car and other than the bed bring rotted out, I kept it CLEAN. Even though I have my Camaro, I still miss my truck sometimes, except for not having AC in weather like today (over 90* here).

    Re: Beater Truck

Been driving this thing almost as a daily, over 300 miles so far (that`s alot in a couple weeks for me, company truck during the week) and its been a real trooper. Changed the oil the other day and the magnetic drain plug had NOTHING on it. Changed the blower motor resistor out last week as well; now I have AC on all fan speeds. The 2.2 4 cylinder is a little lacking on the mountain, but netted me 26mpg on the first tank! Couple weeks it will receive a set of plugs and a throttle body cleaning to try and improve the idle. I did take the Jetta out the other day for a good run, cleaned it up real good so it wouldn`t be too jealous. Almost felt like I was going to shove the clutch pedal through the floor since it`s alot lighter than the truck`s

While doing some investigation on why my rear end is sloppy, what do I spy...

    Ah-hah!

    Original never used!

I was never given an original key, just a spare. Now I got one! Thanks previous owner!

Nizmo- Heh heh, good find! I bet that was neat, spotting it under there and finding an OE key inside.

Heh heh#2, I`m tempted to tease you about never inspecting the undercarriage thoroughly enough to spot it before now

Yea the parts list keeps adding up. All 4 shocks need replaced and now the diff cover is really crispy, bolts an all are mush. Going to be real fun... Luckily the rear brake lines look ok. It was a cheap truck, so it`s to be expected.

    Re: Beater Truck

More odds and ends for the truck. Been cruising Craigslist for some seats and center console for a while now. Finally found a guy parting out a Blazer with a blown motor. $80 got me the seats, console, and even the radio. I think I came out good on that. The seats are power and I pretty much had to destroy the motor to move the seat to get one bolt out. Oh well!

After an hour or so cleaning them, you can`t tell they came from a truck with 230K!

So, my old radio was pretty much shot. FM would no longer work and that`s no bueno. I was going to go aftermarket, but for satellite radio, I didn`t need anything fancy. Price was right.

    Old:

    New (ish?):

Really surprising I didn`t have to mess with the Theftlock!

Hopefully today I`ll be able to modify and install the seats. The center console will have to be modified for the manual trans.
