As many of you know, I`m looking into getting a 99/00 Mazda Protege ES. I can`t decide which color I should get, so throw your own two cents in to help me would you?

BTW there is a minor difference between the front end of the 99/00 and the 01+ Proteges. The black ones are 01+, while the rest are 99/00. I like the newer front end better, so I`ll probably swap the grills of the two generations.

what no white proteges are nice, my friend has an 01 and i like it alot...when looking for a used car, dont forget to go to new car dealers and check their used as inventory as my boy got an 01 burgundy manual protege for 6500, power everything, not a lemon, only 20k....it was sitting on the lot for almost 2 years.....but out of the cars you got i like red...you are right about the grill:xyxthumbs anyways, when looking for a used car, even though its hard i tend not to focus on exterior color but rather the best car available, except black:sosad does it really matter the color, i`ve seen your work you can make anything pop.....i hope the motor is extra dirty hehe....

ps....does this mean you will change your name to redprotege00??

I don`t think I can change my name can I? David???

I don`t know that it would be changed to redprotege00, because I don`t know what color I`m going to get. I like them all...that`s why I posted this thread.

I hope the engine is filthy too Jay...then I`ll have a challenge. But I`ll be happy to work on it for 12 hours straight just to see the transformation of my "new" car!

I vote black as it will finely hone your detailing skills. Trust me, I know. I have had a black or dark blue car around my house for the last 14 years.

I`d go for the blue, it`s a rewarding color to detail, yet not as hard to maintain as black.

I thought about that. But the thing I have against black is the fact that I`ll be sitting in the car a lot during the summer for my job. So I don`t know that I would want a black car since it will attract/hold more heat.

I`m definitely getting window tint on whatever color I get though.

    Oh it will!

    I don`t think I would like adjusting from a 200HP V6 and 5spd to a 120HP 4cyl with an auto.

Much as I wanted to pick something more interesting, I went with silver [sigh]. It does IMO make for a classy little car.

Mazda silver seems like a very easy color to keep *very* nice, based on our MPV. Since you`re buying used, I wouldn`t pick a color that might have some questionable-to-safely-fix issues. You`d hate to find something awful on a black/red/blue car after you got it home and detailed it. With silver I don`t think such a discovery would bother you as much. And it`s nice to have a car that doesn`t require constant perfection.

The old style grills look sorta like the one on the MPV. Dozens of little slots that only *really* come clean when you poke something in each and every one of them

Exactly my thoughts. I also see silver as very classy color when done right. This picture really makes me want to get silver.

The paint on this car looks excellent, and we know that`s how it would be in my hands. So that pic represents how it would look if I got silver. I would also be concerned with polishing too much if I got black, since I would probably see little scratches on the paint pretty frequently. And as stated before, I spend a lot of time in the car in the summer, so black may not be the wisest choice for me.

I`m not much for small cars but I do agree with Max about the silver one above. I like those rims and spoiler. Gives it a more sharp look to it. Paint seems wet and glossy looking so that`s a plus. Good luck dude:up AR
