I see it as Dwayne trying to offer something that he doesn`t have to offer at all. By asking that the seller at least put forth some effort to describe the product and show it in a picture isn`t really asking that much and at the very least adds quality to the listing.

I highly doubt that a few guys trading or selling used/opened products amongst themselves here would impact the sales of ACC.

The possibility of a trade or sale going bad would keep me from even offering something like this. We`ve all seen it happen. Someone gets the shaft and then they create long winded warning threads about so and so scewing them over. The more that I think about it and read the replies here, I would vote no to doing it and avoid the hassle.

Re: Garage Sale or Trading Post type forum?

I`m looking at this from the angle of someone who would probably never sell anything, but be more into giving stuff away or buying stuff from individuals. Possibly sampling/trading. With that said, the problems I see with making a seller write a review:

    - No product will ever be a bomb. Everything offered will be the "best stuff I`ve ever used."
    - There won`t be a whole lot offered due to the constraint.
    - The forum won`t have a lot of traffic if there`s not a lot posted up for trades/sale

And you`ll still be left with the perils of a sell/trade forum anyway.

I`ve used forums with buy/sell/trade sections with great success. And I`m not talking about $20 a pop sealants and waxes. I`ve bought high dollar bows and archery equipment, boating and fishing equipment, and tools all on forums. What seems to work at those places:

    - specific rating system for the buy/sell/trade area for transactions. It`s integrated into the site/forum.
    - sellers have to include personal information (contact number, Email, etc) in their profile to be able to sell
    - community/forum feedback

Are there problems? Sure. I don`t think there`s anyway to avoid them completely. But the good transactions I`ve seen and those I have been a part of have far outweighed the bad. By a wide margin. There`s always going to be a Flash Gordon at every forum. There`s just no avoiding that.

Maybe I have just been lucky but of all the detail items and samples I have traded for or bought , I have had good results and found some of the items didn`t live up to all the hype but some exceeded my expectations.

I like this idea. On some car forums I`m on there are sale/trade sections. Having a review would be great too so we know what the person likes or dislikes

Without a mayor in charge, looks like it`s not going to happen.

Re: Garage Sale or Trading Post type forum?

Im on the fence about sale/trade sections.

I have purchased and had quite a few positive experiences and rare finds found w forum classified ads

I have seen many get shafted by classified ads

In a detailing industry classified. I would be more on the trading than the selling.
I have a ton of product im sure not many people of used and vice versa.

I like the idea of a review going along with those trade. Who doesnt like showing off a ride? Its part of the job description isnt it?

So maybe an actual section is not necessary but maybe allow it between members in ONE thread. Id be more than willing to give away a few samples if i have extra. I know for one i have a number of polishes im going to have around for a WHILE and would not miss a couple oz`s and im sure there are others that would be more than willing to trade a sample for a review.

It would be more honest if the BUYER did the review and would be able to have both dialog and content about a particular product. Beats buying $20-$30 bottle and not really like the product cuz it dusts too much or doesnt have a very long work time...

I wouldn`t trade, buy or sell with anyone that doesn`t have a good reputation at this site.

There are many at this site who can be trusted.

I don`t look at this forum as your typical "internet" audience. Yes, there are a few worms that wander in, but we know who they are. And if I don`t, someone else does.

Todd, now that you are the new mayor (without an election)

Can you wrap up some loose ends and make a decision on this Garage Sale/Trading Post Forum?
