    Hackers at it again

You would not believe how bad we just got hacked. I spent all day rebuilding the site and recovering data.

    Actually that`s not true.

I, being the impatient and computer savy person that I am, tried to change servers and accidentally switched over to the new one before it was ready. To make matters worse, when I saw that the site was down I tried to switch back to the old server. Little did I know each time I switch the domain to a different server it takes time for it to happen.

So I played the hurry up and wait game with all the experts telling me to just wait for the site to come back up. Well I don`t know why, but the site did not get copied to the new server properly so I was waiting for nothing . Finally decided to switch it back to the old server last night. So I apologize for my ignorance and pig-headedness. It was another valuable learning experience for me.

So it turns out that I am the hacker this time. The hard way seems to be the only way I learn things these days.

Sounds like an inside job to me.

    Hey, I was right!

It had to be a stressful day especially when you knew you were the cause. Correcting someone else`s mistakes is always much more enjoyable than correcting your own.
Glad to see things back in operation.

That couldn`t be further from the truth in my experience.

I`m sorry that your plan backfired on you Troy, but it`s great to see that everything is back up and running.

Sorry about the mishap, Troy, but I`m glad to see DC is back up and running again.
Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"
Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."

We are hopefully. I still want to switch servers but I am going to have someone who knows what they are doing do it for me. Shouldn`t be any down time involved if you do it right. This server just isn`t as good as I want.

    Re: Hackers at it again

When I switched hosts/platforms for my site, I forgot that I would lose email for the period that the DNS was switching. That scared the crap out of me, but as far as I can tell, I didn`t miss much mail.

    Re: Hackers at it again

Ok we are going to be switching to a new server today and I`ve turned the job over to one of my programmers. It might actually work this time if I`m not involved.

Everything should be seemless. In other words, there shouldn`t be any down time if everything goes right.
