Re: What did you do detailing wise today?

Yesterday I finally washed my car...its been 4 weeks since I had a chance to take care of it...the weather in NE Florida wasn`t the greatest plus it was at the dealer because of a recall...my cars paint is smooth...glossy...so all I had to do is wash it with WF uber SIO2 coating wash...and then I used BF blackice hybrid liquid wax for the first time....all I can say is wow....before yesterday I used BF one step and bf SIo2 paint sealant...I am a weekend warrior...always like my cars looking great...as far as I feel now...the products I mentioned I will use for a long time

We got a couple of nice days last week. I got both the vehicles cleaned up from all the winter junk. Lots of pressure washing, Ryobi undercarriage washer, and Obsessed Garage Decon soap. Weathertech last got washed out as well. It`s going to be cold again for a while but it was nice to spend some time in the driveway washing cars again.

Took advantage of a nice Spring day and gave the truck a good bath. Frame and undercarriage got pressure washed as well; taking it in for service tomorrow and don`t want a dirty truck!

Finished up some loose ends today. TW HS coating on all door jambs and tailgate jamb. Then SONAX rubber seal treatment on all door jamb weather stripping.

That truck is done from top to bottom. Off tomorrow. Time to RELAX!

Re: What did you do detailing wise today?

    2017 Tesla Model S 100 D Red

This was done on April 1st - The BIG thing was the paint thickness.
I recently purchased a DeFelsko 200C3-G PosiTector 200 C3 Advanced Ultrasonic Coating Thickness Gauge and a DeFelsko DFT

I have almost always found Tesla paint to be on the thin and soft side.

I measured inside the door jamb. I do this as a baseline.
NOTE: I like to measure in microns for an accurate reading.

Then I measured the paint on the rest of the car.

This reading is much higher than any Tesla factory paint.
I will admit it was a very good quality paint job.
It was hard to tell it was painted.

I taped off the trim and polished the paint.

Again the interesting part is the before/after paint thickness.

Paint correction was a four part process.

    Scholl`s S2 w/Megs microfiber cutting disc.
Rupes Blue DA with Lake County Blue HDO pad
Rupes Yellow DA and Rupes Yellow DA pad.
Rupes White Pure and Rupes White DA pad.

Interestingly enough the PTG went from 253 to 252.
I removed only 1 micron of CC! (after market paint)

    Finished...

360 walk-around video - Please click bottom Gear for 4K HD Quality w/audio

BTW - If you are polishing paint and you are not using a PTG, IMHO you are polishing blind!
Yes, again, IMHO DeFelsko in the "gold standard" but even an inexpensive PTG is better the no PTG at all!

Another note: I had a 2017 Mazda Miata - Gloss Black stop by. Covered in swirls and holograms!
I measured the paint. It was THIN. The thickest reading I got was 67 microns. I didn`t do the car.

    Thanks for looking...

Used the Ech2o I just received to clean off my wife’s car. Worked really nice at 10:1 waterless rate.

Re: What did you do detailing wise today?

Supervised my friend as we did the following to her Jeep Patriot:
    * Rinseless washed with ultima
    * Decon with Ferrous Dueller
    * clay with DJ Born Slippery/Prima Slick $ Meg’s Pro Fine Blue
    * polish with G9, GG orange pad, and Wolf’s Medium Cut. Tried a lighter polish first but thought we cut do a bit better. The Wolf’s finishes down well enough that she was happy with the result.

Ran out of energy and paint was getting pretty warm by the time we finished so Thursday we’ll use Eraser and put some of what I have left of my CQuartz Lite on it.

Re: What did you do detailing wise today?

Since this thread has been active for a hot minute, figure I`d post somethin`!

Got the Tacoma cleaned up and protected. Full iron decon and two coats of Griot`s 3 in 1. I really like the ease of this stuff. Yes I know it`s not a true ceramic coating, but the TW Hybrid Ceramic has worked well for me and still was beading for the most part at 5 months. Truck is garaged though, so not everybody will have the same results. I know on the Jeep which sits outside 24/7 the side surfaces still bead nicely 6+ months in...

No polishing or correcting was done. It`s in pretty good shape and I hope to keep up with it to avoid such. Figure if I keep up with this thing maybe the single stage white Toyota still loves using will stay shiny.

I ran into some real nasty line paint on a cars trim with under 5000 miles I soaked it down multiple times with Megs all season dressing then scraped of with plastic razor blade still took a long time and could get all off. If u have a better methods please share.
