I hear you. They are not cheap. Figured I would give it a shot. I`ll give the other brush a shot on the interior one of these days.

After looking at the MSDS sheet for Megs UQD, I see solvents to clean contaminants and caolin (sp) for shine. Nothing for lubricity, so my 1st step now is a quick wipe with Opti NR diluted for clay. Pulls debris nicely, then the UQD for the pop.
    Gotta love black paint haha.

Loaned out some Collinite, a spray bottle of UWW and two of my TRC 1100gsm towels to a coworker. He`s used to just using OTC Meg`s stuff.

FYI you can buy the brushes separately here, instead of having to buy them in a 2 pack from Cyclo: Carpet & Upholstery Brushes for Dual Action Polishers

Quickie on this Mercedes SLK230. The dealership only wanted the paint polished and headlights restored. I didn`t take any before pics but the headlights were heavily oxidized and yellow. A baggie test confirmed it didn`t need to be clayed so HD Speed was all the paint needed.

Re: What did you do detailing wise today?

Worked on an Explorer Sport today. What a nice vehicle. It drives well, looks nice and is reasonably quick. The owner and I had spoken for some time about getting together and detailing his car. It was kind of funny as in all the times we`d talked about this detail, he never one time had mentioned water spots. In honesty, I`ve never detailed a vehicle that had water spots like this one, it was bad. We tried a bit of white vinegar but it didn`t touch the spots, so we went straight to polishes. It did not have any etching, the owner isn`t sure where he was getting the water spots though I encouraged him to look at his sprinklers.

The vehicle is only about a year old but the finish was in rougher shape than I had expected to see. He had this vehicle professionaly detailed 4 or 5 months ago but wasn`t sure what the detailer had used. It had zero sheeting or beading ability left. Much of this may have been due to the calcium deposits on the finish but it did not shed water.

He showed up at my home early this morning and we both worked steady on it for over 7 hours. We didn`t really even get around to looking at the interior other than to wipe the dash down, it still needs a couple of hours worth of attention and the barrels of the wheels need to be thoroughly cleaned and coated. This car is a beautiful metallic black paint and black leather. We ended up cleaning the water spots up with BlackFire`s polishes and Lake Country white and blue pads. Topped with BlackFire Sealant, MotorKote and PoorBoys Bold-n-Bright. It finished up very nicely, with the exception of a couple of rock chips the paint is virtually flawless. Unfortunately I didn`t take any befores and my afters are limited both by my photography skills and the fact that it never got to 50 degrees today under cloudy skies. I did however squeak a couple of afters out.

It was fun working with my friend but I was truly worn out when we had finished. A project like this makes me appreciate the folks that do this for a living all the more.
